Typical nonsense from people without a thought in their head.
Firstly, my comment was taking the piss out of the "mourning scousers" stereotype and said nothing about the player. However, in the minds of these mouthbreathers, this has seemingly become intertwined. I don't need a picture book to show you how full of shit this is.
Secondly, people want to use big concepts that they have little understanding of, such as "grace" and "respect". If anybody wants to show me why anything that I've said lacks respect to Ablett then I'll hold my hands up. Obviously you can't, because you're all fawning, oversentimental idiots who think that posting "RIP" on a thread is the height of respect and "grace". I've never mentioned the lad, his family or anything; I've had an angry reaction to insincere people who love a good excuse to break out the black armbands, and it's frankly annoying.
Not a single one of you has actually mentioned anything about the lad, nor his achievements, nor his demeanour nor anything. You are wallowing in the death of another simply because he was a footballer and he was around your age, and believe that somehow posting RIP will absolve you of the shame of it. It's ridiculous. Some of you didn't know who he was until this morning, but now posting on a memorial thread is the height of civility?
If you want to actually respect his memory, GO AND ACTUALLY DO IT. Don't post here a quick "RIP" and think that you deserve a big thumbs up for it. Find out something about him, donate to his favoured charity, hell even go to RAWK and post a condolence message, ANYTHING.
At least the guys on RAWK and ToffeeTalk may have a point in posting their messages. To some of them, he would have been a guy that they saw every week for years, some may have idolised him; either way, he was part of their upbringing and their football family. He helped produce a whole generation of players in Merseyside.
To us, he was a guy who used to play for somebody else and 99% of us had pretty much forgotten about. Posting on these threads in the form of condolences is meaningless and stupid.
To some people, this is an earth shattering moment when they wish that everything would just go back in time. This is the biggest and saddest event that has ever happened to them. I'm not sure if City fans posting RIP then two seconds later arguing over their favourite choice of barm or muffin is entirely relevant to their everyday lives. Those who are affected by this have far better places to go than listen to a bunch of people who didn't even know who he was reverently posting their unthoughtful condolences. As I say, it's slackitivism, right up there with signing an internet poll in how thoughtless it is, so don't talk to me about respecting memories unless you actually make an effort to do so yourselves.
