Gary Ablett

Typical nonsense from people without a thought in their head.

Firstly, my comment was taking the piss out of the "mourning scousers" stereotype and said nothing about the player. However, in the minds of these mouthbreathers, this has seemingly become intertwined. I don't need a picture book to show you how full of shit this is.

Secondly, people want to use big concepts that they have little understanding of, such as "grace" and "respect". If anybody wants to show me why anything that I've said lacks respect to Ablett then I'll hold my hands up. Obviously you can't, because you're all fawning, oversentimental idiots who think that posting "RIP" on a thread is the height of respect and "grace". I've never mentioned the lad, his family or anything; I've had an angry reaction to insincere people who love a good excuse to break out the black armbands, and it's frankly annoying.

Not a single one of you has actually mentioned anything about the lad, nor his achievements, nor his demeanour nor anything. You are wallowing in the death of another simply because he was a footballer and he was around your age, and believe that somehow posting RIP will absolve you of the shame of it. It's ridiculous. Some of you didn't know who he was until this morning, but now posting on a memorial thread is the height of civility?

If you want to actually respect his memory, GO AND ACTUALLY DO IT. Don't post here a quick "RIP" and think that you deserve a big thumbs up for it. Find out something about him, donate to his favoured charity, hell even go to RAWK and post a condolence message, ANYTHING.

At least the guys on RAWK and ToffeeTalk may have a point in posting their messages. To some of them, he would have been a guy that they saw every week for years, some may have idolised him; either way, he was part of their upbringing and their football family. He helped produce a whole generation of players in Merseyside.
To us, he was a guy who used to play for somebody else and 99% of us had pretty much forgotten about. Posting on these threads in the form of condolences is meaningless and stupid.

To some people, this is an earth shattering moment when they wish that everything would just go back in time. This is the biggest and saddest event that has ever happened to them. I'm not sure if City fans posting RIP then two seconds later arguing over their favourite choice of barm or muffin is entirely relevant to their everyday lives. Those who are affected by this have far better places to go than listen to a bunch of people who didn't even know who he was reverently posting their unthoughtful condolences. As I say, it's slackitivism, right up there with signing an internet poll in how thoughtless it is, so don't talk to me about respecting memories unless you actually make an effort to do so yourselves.

Pick up your tampons for fucks sake.
People saw fit to write a quick RIP, because they wanted to. You come on with some lame comment, sorry, 'taking the piss', then get all arsey when people pull you for being slightly out of order.
Did you say anything like this on the Neil Young threads by any chance? About how a quick RIP then debating about muffins or barms? I'm guessing no, you didn't. It matters not that Ablett didn't play for us. It's common decency to put a quick RIP on a thread if a poster sees fit to do so. It's not common decency to go on such a thread and so a bit of piss taking, regardless of what context it was in. The reaction puts you in the minority, and rightly so, but for you to then come on with some massive post from on top your horse, well if the subject isn't that important to you, why bother?

You sir are a complete waste of space.

Why do you not avoid the thread if you feel like that insted of spouting complete crap.

Fuck sakem he played for both scouse clubs, we will be seeing candlelit vigils for six months
Pretty piss poor that, to each their own though.

Bollocks is it, I fucking hate these threads.

Did you lot know the lad? Are you going to wake up in sweats next month crying that he no longer exists?

A quasi celebrity is dead. Writing RIP wont bring him back, wont bring comfort to anyone and is a piss poor way of showing respect. Its the laziest way possible, write a quick, entirely insincere comment then carry on with your day.

If you actually care,go and find out his charity of choice and make a donation in his name, which would be a fitting way to honour his memory; posting RIP in a thread in a City internet forum is meaningless lazy drivel.

This kind of pseudo mourning is a fucking joke. You aren't even bothering to share memories of him, just writing RIP then carrying along on your merry way. If I was part of his family, this type of insincere bullshit would piss me off more than comfort me.

Let me guess.. you didn't spout this nonsense when Neil Young and Mick Doyle passed away?
And I'm sure you don't remember them as footballers, you're way too young.

And I seem to remember you starting a thread about the death of some scientist very few had ever heard of. Was that somehow different because you started it?

Was that insincere?

Ah well, at least it's not as bad as your previous efforts in defending those who sing songs about Munich or the use of the N word... it's progress I suppose.

Could I give you a piece of advice? You're a very clever writer... but you're not funny. Never have been and I doubt you ever will be. Stick to what you are best at.

The munich one was disgusting how he got away with that i will never know..

And the one where he questioned our owners human rights & ripped them apart.

And some people on here adore him,a CLOWN of the highest order!

There isn't a thread every time someone dies, it's usually if they were very young as in this case. It makes people think about their own mortality and that of the people around them. People are shocked and want to show their respect it's hardly worth losing your head over.

Damocles, you've missed the point twice already in this thread. The issue isn't RIP threads, or whether they're sincere, or any of that. The issue is that it wasn't the time or place to make one of your painfully unfunny "jokes", and I think you know that now, hence your wriggling out of it with a rant about RIP threads. You cocked up, you look silly, and despite the groundswell of disapproval it's provoked, you don't have the stones to admit it.

Gary Ablett RIP

Just heard that Gary Ablett passed away earlier today after a batle against cancer, played for both Liverpool clubs and was still in his 40's.

Maybe the dippers can show some class for once and wear tee-shirts remembering him rather than supporting Suarez..

Re: Gary Ablett RIP

Put's everything into perspective...

Next time we fail to win, people should have a reality check...

A sad day indeed.

RIP

Re: Gary Ablett RIP

The reaction of the media and the footballing communtiy is interesting. Gary Speed took his own life which, whilst he must have had his own demons was a very selfish thing to do especially as he left a wife and young children behind to cope without him. Gary Ablett suffered a terrible illness which led to his death and again 2 young children are left behind but I have yet to see the same outpouring of grief, the tears, the interviews with retired no marks desperate for 2 minutes on the radio, a comment fom Mr racist/sexist Blatter and as far as iI am aware, no minutes silence/applause at an of todays games. I find it very strange. I expect to get flack for my cynical take on it but my thoughts go out to Abletts family

I know why but I would never post it on the internet. His kids have enough to cope with.
