sorry to tell you this, but my impression is that talksport aren't very highly regarded by the majority of fans, most of whom who discussed this last night appeared ready to laugh this off.

I'm sure some people are upset, but I wonder if they're upset enough to give the media ammunition to fire at us. even those who dislike cook, would they want to stick the knife in.... would they think it a good thing for the club to get him forced out in the middle of such an important season?... and wouldn't it just be ridiculous of City to dispose of a key figure over a slip of the tongue?

just can't see it. tommorows fish paper and all that.

I once said in a class that the 19th amendment was a waste of paper (women's suffrage) when I meant the 18th (prohibition). Does it mean that I hate women and should have been failed out of the class? I was on scholarship, should that have been dropped? No. Quit being ridiculous, people sometimes say the wrong thing. I guarantee you that no one feels worse about this right now that Garry does, he's probably gutted. I know I was when I made my gaffe.

Look Mavis and for all who have over reacted to this. Gary made a mistake. We all say stupid things from time to time. This one in particular will go down as a corker. But lets keep this in house. If I was in City's head office, I'd want to keep this story away from the press pack. Do you really want to give the press pack yet another negative story about City to feast upon?

Is there any need to create a new thread about this. Unless you are Giles in disguise or his 'friend' wanting to out this story so it reaches the papers out of spite? (Rhetorical)...

Gary Cook has been part of a team that has transformed our club and is making us a world wide brand name. He has a slip of the tongue........... so what ?

I would be far more worried about the capabilities of our manager than our chief exec.

May I kindly direct you to the thread below. It contains much discussion about this event. Starting a new thread about this is not really that necessary unless you want attention and/or want people to feel sorry for Giles and how you and your pals were treated. The same pals that take every opportunity to knock City in the press and on the radio.

Reactionary, knee jerk bullsh*t of the highest order!

If the posters on here asking for GC's head because of a simple slip of the tongue cannot see what he has done for our club then it is a sad state of affairs.

99% of the posts on here were done past midnight last night when I can only assume that some of the vitriol being spouted may have been as a direct result of alcohol. I wonder how many wake up this morning and think that they went a bit too far in what they were saying - maybe they made a mistake due to the alcohol? Well FFS!! GC was at a dinner, probably had a glass of wine or two and inadvertantly got one of his words wrong in a pressure situation (public speaking is not easy nor comfortable and I don't care who you are or what position of power you hold but it never feels natural).

So wind your necks in a bit, pour a bit of water onto your burning effagies and put your pitch-forks back into the garden shed. Get over this because it means absolute f*ck all in the scheme of things.

That's the thing, WHO GIVES A FLYING F*CK? A few nobodies over on Red Cafe or whatever have a bit of a chuckle, Oli Holt or some tool in the Mail picks up on it whilst pretending to be a real journo? Who cares? It's not as if he's been caught with his cock in a donkey, he made a mistake, absolutely no big deal. Naive, yes, unprofessional, sure, but easily done.

He's a highly paid employee at the club, if he's not capable of speaking at a function like this due to nerves or pressure then I question whether he is up to it. If a glass of wine or two renders him incapable of making a speech without cocking up he should stay on the water.

I'm sure he is capable, but let's not excuse this as anything other than a pretty unprofessional act by someone that is only too happy telling all and sundry how professional he is.
