Gary James interviewing Noel Gallagher about City

Cracking interview so far @Gary James I remember waking up to the news we had been taken over as well and couldn't take it all in. When we were still struggling under Hughes I thought "Typical City. We're now the richest club in the world and bought much better players but we're still crap." When Mancini came in and said he was going to rip that banner down I thought, ,"Right, here we go!" and so it proved.

Enjoyed that. I always say when people accuse Noel of being a hanger on etc, that he had a season ticket near me in the Platt Lane and attended every game.

His job, like many other people's, mean he can't get to every game now and his job also now means, invariably, that he gets to know players, managers and they become friends and he gets invites to games. Think it's a bit of jealousy actually with some.

I also think he is still a knowledgeable and passionate blue and a good ambassador for City.
Saw him at Crystal Palace away a few years ago when Kelechi scored the last min winner. He was just in with the fans I think that day as was stood near the bar with Mike Pickering. Gets mithered to death though for photos so no wonder he goes corporate most of the time.

i think if the club wanted the perfect rock n roll image ambassador fan, they would clone Noel.

it is a match made in heaven and something money cant buy, noel is fantastic when in the studios as a pundit, you sit there waiting for him to say what nobody else dare say.

the oasis / city connection, even though i say it myself is by far the best celeb / footy club combo in all the english leagues. It is intriguing.

oasis, are still a "cool" band with younger people ,they spread the word, never understood people giving them stick for "free loading" noel is probably really good mates with a few of the players as well, love oasis, love city

Pure jealousy mate. For some reason certain people don’t like to see others do well, those people will never be happy unfortunately for them.

In the dark days of the 90s Oasis helped make MCFC appeal to people around the globe. City sold merchandise by using Oasis’s name so if we added it all up it may well be that MCFC still owe Noel for the increased income the club had back then.

for me the difference between Noel Gallagher and certain celebrity fans of other clubs is clear. He was a fan, like any of us, but he became a celebrity. He wasn’t a celebrity who became a fan of a trendy club like some people do.

Over the years I’ve interviewed quite a few celebrity MCFC fans and I can usually tell straight away how much of a fan they were BEFORE they became famous and were wined/dined by the club. Noel is a definite fan. Like us all he may get the odd date wrong - his first game was in 75 for example not 74 - but you can tell he was there because of what he says; how he describes it etc. His stories of specific games tend to match the facts and the experiences ordinary fans had.

Cheers Gary I look forward to listening to the interviews. Top man.

I think a few Bluemooners will be interested in this... I interviewed Noel Gallagher last week about City and I’ve posted the first part of the audio recording here (it’s free to listen to and there’ll be a new section each day for 5 days):

Thanks Gary
These interviews are great, thanks for sharing, Gary.

A lot of podcasts seem to be all about the podcaster themselves begging for attention.

But yours are always about the guest and the club, and you bring a calm and assured legitimacy to it. Thanks again.

Thanks. Maybe if I did it differently I’d make money out of it all but for me it has always been about uncovering the stories of football, especially the words of the people. Few people ever get to hear my own personal views on players, moments because as far as I’m concerned I’m chronicling it. I’m not the story, so I am absolutely delighted you’ve said what you’ve said. It means a lot. Thanks.

Noel and Liam personify Manc Cool for me personally. When we were shite they were on the cover of magazines all over the world with their City shirts on - just seemed to keep us relevant at a time when the whole world was crashing round our ears. Do like the music and think they will always be one of the great British Rock n Roll bands for many years. They divide opinion - but as the song goes MCFC OK. Good on 'em always like to see Mancs doing well (aside from footie I mean) though Hucknall is a twat.

Another good interview
Just a slight moan, the podcasts seem very quiet for me?
I have everything on full and its still very quiet on my laptop
having said that,I 'am hard of hearing.

These interviews are belters, it could be any of us on here and we'd all say exactly the same.
Are you going to put it out as a full interview Gary?
I'm going to subscribe to your website anyway, I'm in :)
All 5 parts will be out there but probably not as a full 1 hour. I have a few technical restrictions preventing me from creating and uploading the full hour.

Really enjoyed that. One thing that was annoying, was the denuding of the "industrial language", that industrial language is because, that's the environment of where your club started, the people who gave them support, that tell it as it is, nothing Noel said would be new to any fan, young or old. Its language and I hate the looking at it as "bad" it's not, it's great to encapsulate how you feel. We weren't very promising, or we were fucking awful? Which tells you how it was? Apart from that I really enjoyed it, I love listening to supporters of clubs who have their team as part of their DNA, who know, changing clubs because yours isn't winning, should be a hanging offence. To remember the camaraderie, the coming together when all seems lost and saying, fuck you, we are still here. You always had a core support of 30,000 plus who held the line. I am a Glaswegian and we have a saying, just because you have a new arse, don't forget the old one. Noel and all the guys on here get that and enjoy this brilliant time because of it. A few days away from a CL final. Imagine going back to the days when you were 58th and someone saying hang about, one day you will win the Prem regularly and be in the CL final? I think there would be no denuding of industrial language there, you would have been asked, are you fucking mental? I like Noel and as he likes my team, Celtic, I like him even more. He's great in interviews and you know he's not a celeb fan wanker, He's the real deal.

What you're doing is far more important, Gary.

The podcasters might make a quick cheap buck, but theirs is disposable content at the end of the day.

Your stuff will last and leave a legacy, which I'm sure for any historian is more important.

he's not talking about Gary James,he's talking abt gallagher i presume

if he was talking abt GJ ,I'd tell parkside to shut the fk up

Gary should be City's Official Historian

and why he isn't ,is a mystery
Whoosh
