I had a lot of respect for the guy before this. But to commit suicide when you have a wife and child, as well as a loving family and friends is unbelievably selfish.

Stupid sentiment best kept to yourself.

Here's the Bryn Law video. Quite hard to watch, real tear jerker.

Dunno how true this is but 'apparently' his wife's statement said they had a 'massive row' on Saturday night and he locked himself away.

There's surely a reason to it, whether we'll find out or not I don't know.

Keep seeing pictures of him on various websites and just wish it wasn't true. He never played for us and I obviously never knew him but because I saw him play and knew what a nice guy he was it's quite hard to process. Must be horrible for his family.

A day on and I still can't get my head around this. Still feels like I've been punched in the stomach. I've been trying to think of any "public" figure dying that has had this much effect on me and I can't even come close and I'm not entirely sure why. Just going over all the internet sites reading the tributes to him really hits you as to just how revered he was be everyone. Find myself welling up just reading what he has meant to people all over.

I live over in the States and didn't even get into football until after the '94 World Cup. Started following City shortly after due to the influence of Oasis. At the time there might be one Premier League match a week on the TV that I could watch so after we were relegated I was stuck with no chance of seeing City. I guess I kind of took Newcastle as my stand-in Premier League side. Just thought Speed, Solano, Shearer et al were class. Plus there was no love lost with the scum. Just always admired the hard work and no nonsense approach Speed went about every match. I learned a lot about the game through just watching him whenever he was on. I guess he was probably my first favourite player that I had watched in the League and I always kept an eye on him from then on with what he did. Just really feels like a part of my youth has been taken. Still coming to terms with it I suppose.

RIP Gary. If I feel this way I can only imagine what his family and friends are going through. Thoughts are with them as well.

-- Mon Nov 28, 2011 8:19 pm --

No. The sentiment is probably correct and possibly known through bitter experience.

It is the wrong "forum" (and I don't mean bluemoon) to discuss it though.

Gary Speed's death seems to have opened a floodgate of emotions across the UK.
I'm Welsh and a football fan so my grief and sadness were to be expected (even so, I still can't understand how badly it has affected me - I've been on the point of tears all day).
It seems to be on a par with the death of Presley and Lennon in the impact it has had on so many and he's obviously nothing like as well known.
He just just seems to have been a brilliant bloke - a brilliant bloke who looked like he had it all
God bless you Gary Speed!
