Gas & Electricity

I think she will get that £150 towards it and is band c so should get £200 council tax reduction but even if she does, the extra £400 or so is still a lot. She is from that generation where she is more likely to turn heating off and be cold!
It’s a joke this hasn’t been addressed.
The government printed money and chucked it around like confetti during the pandemic, it’s just numbers on a screen so why can’t they intervene here and absorb the increases ? Special circumstances need special resolutions.
No one in this country should be scared to switch their heating on or sit with their lights on.

Please nationalise power. Soon. Stop the worries and unfair bills. Stop the traders making money out of people with nothing.
I've thought for a while now that a part solution is to grant each household an allowance at a fixed, government-set price per kWh for gas and elec, and then let the energy companies charge what they want for the usage above. Oh, and those with second (& more) homes don't get the allowance. It's sort of half-nationalising the industry, but equally it might drive people to use less energy.

There's probably a flaw in this idea somewhere.

We were paying £120pm to AVRO, had £160 credit when they went under, was transferred to Octopus and managed to burn up the credit by January, so upped the payment voluntarily to £150. Have put the meter reads in today and am now £86 in debit, so they are putting the payment up to £177pm, strange thing is they say they will drop it to £144 in September, don't suppose that's ever going to happen, either way it's beginning to bite now, only saving grace is that we're all in the same boat and it's not personal.
I'm the same as you..
Ive gone from £315 in credit to £345 in debit with Octopus after AVRO went..
They want me to increase to £195 per month and will reduce back to £134 in September..
However and very important to know... This does not include any increase that will take place in April when the new price cap starts...

Yeah, hence me saying it won't ever come back down. Ours is mainly gas, the boiler is 20yrs old so I'm thinking it may be prudent to change it for a new, more efficient one, it's currently taking a while to get hot water from the tap once it's opened, surely a new one will shorten that time and save using so much gas. The potential savings will be even greater when the price goes up again.

Doubt it.
We had a new boiler last year.
Can take ages to get hot water through the kitchen tap four feet away.
We use the cold to fill the kettle while we wait for it to heat up!

Money saving tips. Day 1.

Instead of freezing cause of energy price rises. Go to wetherspoons and order a coffee with free refills all day. Free warmth, Free Internet and Tim Martin gets the bill.

Went yesterday for a quick bite, was ok but there was a table full of pissheads that were off-putting, especially since it was only 12.00. I suppose they were 3hours in by then though.

We‘d need to do it en masse to force the dickheads out.

You seem to think we have a government who gives one shit about the poor. Where’ve you been for the last 12 years?

You can eat peoples left overs as well. Might replace universal credit..

Can be done very easily over a couple of nights, when not going mad!
Bloke and his Mrs go the pub
He buys a pint which is £4 +
She has a large G&T, which is going to be close to costing a tenner
Four drinks each is knocking on the door of £50
Ah you take your wife........

No sympathy for you.
