Gas & Electricity

Wonder how many pensioners will have to starve or die of hypothermia before the press actually report sensibly on this?

There could be unrest too if nothing is done.

Good luck.
My wood burner in an open plan house doesn’t heat upstairs at all.
Have you thought of re routing the flue. Bring it out of the chimney inside the lounge and route it through the lounge ceiling up into upstairs and carry it on through the roof. Most of the heat which would wasted and go up the chimney is now radiated into your upstairs. A bit of a faff and expense but....free heat.

Absolutely scandalous prices. How low income families and the less well off are going to get through this is beyond me. I was one of the lucky ones who got a 2 year fix last September just before it really started getting out of hand. I only fixed then because my existing deal was coming to an end so the timing was fortunate to say the least.

Its not on, because we know that they have increased bills and DDs by too much already. Ofgen told us this. So, one hike is enough Shirley? These energy companies are raking it in
If only everyone stuck together and we all cancelled our direct debits en masse, that is the only thing that would bring these robbing cunts down to their knees

Sorry to hear about your grandma. Thats quite expensive for only 4-5hrs, is it very big or poorly insulated ?

Pretty sure its only about a fiver a day for me (5 bed detached built in the 60s) and the wife has it cranked up in winter.

Make sure your boiler is set to less than 60 deg for the feed to the radiators or it wont be running efficiently. Know a few people who service boilers and they say everyone tends to have the temperature set to max which is similar to driving a car with your foot flat to the floor. It heats the house up more quickly but then it overshoots (goes above the target temperature) and turns off. Its then repeats the cycle each time the temperature drops.

If its just a choice between putting the rads on for only drying clothes and not for heating the house then a dryer may be sensible as the heat is concentrated on the clothes rather than heating the air in the whole house.
A second one is to make sure all the radiators get hot and if they seem a lot cooler at the top where air settles then they need bleeding. Air locked radiators generate less or sometimes no heat at all but the boiler will still heat the water cycling the radiator.

Be careful as well of the position of the thermostat, we can move ours and use an app to control it so we put it in the lounge as that's where we are 99% of the time. If you can't do this then bare in mind if the thermostat is somewhere like a hall (which is draftier and colder) then the heating might stay on even though you're warm enough in your lounge.

The last one, don't leave your thermostat set to manual to maintain a temperature, use timers! The amount of people I know who just leave it on all the time set to a target temperature. It's not an issue at this time of year as it'll click off because temperatures are warmer but in the winter your heating will likely be constantly on, even when you're not in.

Wood burner being fitted in mine. I'm not entertaining these daft prices. I know good wood costs and I will happily pay it, but as its such a small house it will heat most of it. I'm not entertaining these ludicrous prices, they can fuck right off. I've always wanted one anyway and it gave me the kick up the hoop to do some overtime and buy one. The prices won't come down, ever. Eventually, they may say they won't put them up when the cap review comes around and make out like they are doing us all a favour. Load of shit

Get one or two of them flu fans to go on top mate. Make the world of difference.

Did you go for one with a back boiler? Can do best part of half a dozen radiators don’t need to go all fancy - can just chuck manual pump on the system which you can turn on when you want the rads fed.

If you’re in an older house with exposed floorboards make sure you fill the gaps between the boards. Mine was like that, looked nice and was lovely in summer but shit in winter - was like having a couple of windows wide open I worked it out to be.

Rich fuckers don't care.......or those that claim leccy on expenses.

Out of touch cunts

with £730m Sunak can comfortably heat all his swimming pools which is why he thinks of extending help to you and me to be "silly" - if he does anything it will be to save his and his bosses arses because of what the Gray report says not because people less well off than he may be in need

All good advice. If you do bleed the rads make sure the boiler is off.
Another is if you radiator isnt getting warm at the bottom its due to the flow rate. Either the lock shield valve is too wide open, the thermostatic valve has failed or there is a build up of corrosion in the radiator. If its corrosion and you are comfortable either draining down the system or just isolating the radiator, removing it and giving it a good blast through with a hose pipe outside, it can make a world of difference. Refit remembering you will need to top it up from the boiler end and get rid of any air in the system by bleeding the rad.
Loads of vids on Youtube how to do it.

Time for nationalisation I think...if they can make obscene profits every year and do a small bit of "we need the cash for infrastructure improvements" whilst pocketing the rest then it's time to wheel them back in.

We get vastly cheaper bills, the Government gets a small profit, everyone is happy.

You would think that something has got to give soon. There's not many more basic rights than an entitlement to power and heat at a fair and reasonable price.

If IPSA had anything about them they would block MPs claiming for Gas and Electric for their 2nd homes and should have frozen their pay. They'd soon be quick to do something about the spiralling costs.

The country is on it's arse, standard of living is going to be similar to Belarus in a few years.
