That's such a sad ending. Dying all alone, not surrounded by family and/or friends. I guess that, in a way, it was a blessing (of sorts) that he had Alzheimers and was likely unaware that his wife had passed away. Sorry if that sounds harsh; it is not intended to be interpreted that way.

Old people are proud.
Old people are convinced they don’t need help.

I’m just surprised that people are shocked by this event.
There are many old people living the same lives of isolation in the U.K.

Sadly in the UK so many elderly live alone. Take a paper for a neighbour, or offer a meal, a natter, and so on. It is a state shame that we have so many elderly charities!!!

He was well off surely? Maybe as he got older he trusted people less maybe had a bad experience and had either his wife or himself taken advantage of.

It's very sad in every way.

He was. Looking back I think he was very good at playing self confident characters. Wonder if there was a personal reason for that.

Having read a bit about him he was turned down many many times which suggests he must have had quite a bit of self belief about him.

Him and Hoffman were great mates when he started and were voted joint ‘least likely to succeed in an acting career’ which shows the value of those votes!

He was a sort of anti hero playing a Reverend. Tried to make his way out leading a few others but perished, whilst bristling at god for allowing it to happen. (I think!)
