But a housing ministry spokeswoman said house building was at its highest level for all but one of the last 30 years.

"We have a great track record... with 222,000 homes delivered last year, and 1.3 million in total since 2010, including over 430,000 affordable homes.

I did read the article.

Did the Tories pledge to build 200,000 starter homes? Yes. Did they pass the legislation required and use subsidies earmarked for the scheme to build the starter homes? No. Did builders in the absence of supporting legislation/subsidies build more expensive homes? Well obviously. Did the Tories keep to their pledge? No.

You are going to have a hard five weeks trying to stitch together the crumbs of comfort you find in failed Govt pledges and projects.
