Moot point. In any other walk of life if you have some money and someone else takes it off you without your consent, what do you call it?

So I suppose I would only call "theft" money being taken at a rate or level higher than which you personally would consent to.

Does that mean I think taxation is unnecessary? No, of course it is necessary. We need to balance this undesirable act of taking peoples' money off them, with the objectives of maintaining a fair and decent society where no-one should suffer like it's a 3rd world country.

Its not a Moot point
you have consented as the general election is where the population gives its consent.
You can argue that the system is wrong and that it doesnt allow you to give real consent, but that means you cant give consent to any taxation so all taxation is theft.

The last paragraph I agree with but the ones above are just wrong

I've just noticed McDonnell is promising to cut VAT now as well.

Hurrah! Hurrah!

By the end of this evening, he will perhaps have promised to abolish all taxation on anyone earning less than £80k, and have no VAT at all.

The man's a genius, I tell you, a genius.

really?
Theft by the government perpetrated on the citizens can be justified?
If its justified it stops being theft. If you think of it as theft, then it cant be justified.

For example if you have to take food in order to feed yourself and your family because their are no alternatives, then it stops being theft because its morally justified because the system you are living under has failed.
If you want to get hung up on one sentence of his post then go ahead. You understood his point and I'll let you into a secret, neither you nor I will change a single person's vote by arguing this out for the next ten pages.

No they aren't, but never mind, it doesn't matter. I'm bored of arguing with you about it, so god knows how everyone else feels.

I'd take a ban for you Chippy boy, it's the least I could do.

Thatcher's bloody Britain!......

Still, we can laugh at the above, but we can't laugh at this.....

How can anyone write a letter like that and yet describe themselves as "not a very party political animal"? :-)

I would hope that's a given.

There's no one more committed to a worthwhile NHS than me. It saved both my parents lives and has thus far kept them alive.

If any party really wanted rid or stopped it being free to use/and/or ruined the quality then they'd never receive my vote again.

It's a red line issue for me at any rate.
And that's not what's happening? How many NHS medical professionals top down and bottom up have explicitly stated that departments and services are being chronically underfunded. With the trillions about to be spent on Trident and tens of millions on the restoration of Buckingham Palace, it's not like the money isn't there is it? So if it's a question of choice of what the money is spent on. Why would they choose not to release the funding so desperately needed by the NHS if was not for the reason of a intended systematic running down of services with view to an endgame of privatisation? This also in plain view. No shadowy forces at work. It's there for all to see.
