General transfer rumours

I understand your argument; we have the best manager, the best team, so it is ok. No, I don't think it ok. We made huge mistakes, especially in the cases of Mangala and Bony, we paid them huge salaries, and now we need to correct our mistake. My intention is not to criticize the past, but the fact that we have repeatedly done these types of mistakes many times, which indicate that we are not learning from our mistakes. To have a wealthy owner does not mean to be negligent in your bookkeeping and to continue to pay ridiculous wages for average players. For our business model to be successful, we need to develop appropriate methods to avoid the same in the future.

You don't understand my argument. To get the best manager and to get into the elite of world football we needed to make certain moves. Our very first purchase was a horrible one. Would you call Robinho a mistake though? NO WAY. Our business model IS successful because we top loaded our investment and made some necessary if not financially wise moves to get to where we can become more financially prudent. Its not that we aren't learning from our mistakes. Its that we needed to progress so rapidly that mistakes were part of the equation. Now that we have achieved our mid-term goals (established top tier team, regular CL, compete for the title every year, have the best youth set up in the world, have the best manager in the world...etc...) we will see the business side sorted. We won't be paying players to leave in 2 years. This period was necessary and is closing.

Agree with this 100% had to shoot up the drawbridge before it slammed shut, speculate to accumulate and all that.

I understand the need to break quickly into the elite and top 4 , but still the Bony , and to a lesser extent Mangala signings still puzzle me.

Yep. This, this, this. Good post mate.

We had to fill those positions. Mangala is a physical beast and he still has potential. We decided to roll the dice with him and I think he was worth it even knowing what I know now. Pep said it's almost impossible to find a good left footed CB. We decided to gamble. sometimes gambling doesn't work out. We needed to take some chances on some players and these two didn't pan out. It is what it is.

Where do you take issue or what would you have preferred to do at that time?

Mangala was key to getting to the Booooo cup semi finals last year. Much better suited to European football and will be a bargain for who ever gets him.

I actually thought that Mangala would be excellent for us as his physical attributes looked ideal for the premier league. However now Guardiola is here and he obviously prefers other options in that department, the same applies to Bony. If as some fans have suggested , Pep was ordering players well before he took on the job then these two did not work out. Or were they bought by Pelegrini, because if that is the case I am no longer puzzled as his tactics and choice of players baffled many of us.
I think that we have bought really well this Summer and that would seem to have been the result of a different recruitment policy or personnel and hopefully this window will be the last where we have this problem.

I see what you're saying mate. I'm one of the believers that Pep had a say in the transfers. To speculate, I think that Bony was the last of the MP bought players. Either Pep/Txiki discussed KDB, Sterling, and nico or Txiki was clearly aware of the type of players Pep wanted. I think the first window always looks good under a club that can get most of the players they are after. The problem is the last window/last two before a new manager takes over. You'll always have some odd players that don't fit the new regime. I guess the problems compound themselves...if Jovetic worked out we never would have had to to buy Bony in the first place.

In 3 years time:
Spine of Stones, Otto, Gundogin, Jesus, Moreno, Sane, Sterling, KDB, Kelechi (Zinchenko), then we have our own youngsters to add.... Coric would fill that list out nicely.
Great window in my opinion for rebalancing squad.

we seem to have bridged the gap between youth and senior squad without wholesale surgery. Clear tht players who are comfortable on the ball with a high work ethic is essential
