General transfer rumours

you will struggle to beat lower teams because they will sit back,as klopp only knows how to play the lob it over the defence and get very fast players to chase it ,the reason you did so well against us is pep will not change his style ,i expect a kicking off you lot again next season but can see you being a few points behind us again.

Actually got 12 points more against teams "sitting back", this season. But we lost more points against the top teams.

I expect us to battle it out for the second spot, but going past City with one decent transfer window (it has just started) is not likely.

We will improve our football/build up etc but will obviously get fewer points. Last season was a freak of nature.
Agreed! And while I like making fun of Armaan's love for Liverpool, it will be crazy not to admit that so far, they are the team making moves as if they are trying to go win something. :)

Can't wait! This is gonna be a fun season coming up.

Meh! Every season is a season unto itself. Last season is only partly relevant. We finished 15 points behind Chelsea the prior year and then beat them by 30 last season. So in essence we made up a 45 point differential on Chelsea.

In reality Liverpool improving by 15 points. (very possible) and us dropping by 11 points ( also posibl) will leave us ay 89 to Pools 90.

And not of that would be surprising. The wjwho notion of being 19-25 points better is both silly innaccurate

I am really looking forward to watching things go tits up for them after this summer outlay, a la their blue half last year. ;-)

How much do you think we can/should spend this window and would that be compliant to our financial business model?

Whatever it takes to win the title and CL next season.

Pretty sure with all the commercial deals and Sky/BT/CL money we could find the cash for a real A list player like Mbappe, or someone similar that would take us another level up. Rags consistently find astronomical sums for transfers and wages so I don't see how we couldn't for the right player.

As others have pointed out, we are reviewed over 3 years and have spent tons the last couple of years. Spending huge amounts every window is not likely to happen if we want to stay a) in budget and b) not fail FFP.

As for winning CL, our squad last year was more than capable. We could sign 10 Mbappes, but if UEFA dont want us to win it, we wont.

I still think we should just challenge this whole ffp bullshit in court, it's clearly corrupt and a blatant attempt to hold us back. We shouldn't just sit and take it, but be more like PSG.

The fact we didn't win the CL suggests we weren't quite capable. Although clearly refereeing decisions were diabolical, if we score enough they can't disallow them all! Imagine our squad plus Mahrez and Mbappe or Hazard or Neymar added to it. No-one could live with us, not even Liverpool and their tame referees.

I'm pretty sure Sheikh Mansour wants us to be self sufficient and doesn't fancy ploughing another billion or so in.

My hunch is that some degree of not doing so is maybe because it's bad PR.

As it is the media have focused a lot on undermining our entire brand and ownership, from using stuff like oil money to human-rights abuses. And now if we challenge FFP, a mechanism that 'reins' in on expenditure to make a supposedly level playing field for everyone, then we risk antagonizing all other clubs and all their fans even further, only to generate even more negative press which would draw away potential fans. Unfortunately, any football club with our ambitions and targets can't be sustainable and self-sufficient on a small fan base and has to look to grow every year.
