General Videogame Thread

The BF series have never been totally historically accurate.

That's true but that sort of thing isn't a binary option.

Let's say that Game of Thrones showed something that was slightly lore breaking; perhaps some minor character united with a different family or something. Accepting this doesn't mean that we should also be ok with the conclusion being an alien invasion with plasma rifles.

Honestly, I find the first more offensive. It sounds like a continuity error, or something done out of character for fanservice or to advance the plot. GOT is about characters more than lore. The latter sounds kind of like a fitting conclusion to GOT, and not much more far out than one of the currently most popular fan theories.

Lore is a wonderful thing. Break it and all sorts of weirdos, virgins and nutters pop out of the woodwork. History on the other hand, like the film Pearl Harbour, can be fucked about with for "entertainment" purposes and no-one bats an eyelid.

It's a weird world we live in these days.

I was hoping to find a nice bargain on a Graphics Card(older stock) as they release the latest and greatest in the run up to Christmas but I've noticed the prices have seemed off for a while, it seems like anyone else hoping to do the same might be out of luck. I had heard it was something to do with the cryptocurrency gold rush but I understand the situation fully now after reading the below article, it's well explained if anyone else was wondering about it:

I find it quite annoying, I was hoping it would be a temporary thing but who knows how long this will last? Nvidia are going to release some cryptocurrency-centric cards which might help. At least the RAM shortage is over apparently(since August) which was compounding matters, maybe prices will drop a bit after all but there's no signs yet.
Really fancy a gtx 1060 but can't justify the cost, playing with integrated graphics is depressing

Yeah that's the same card I was looking at, I foolishly thought "maybe even a 1070 if there's some bargains".

You might be better off looking at the console bargains at this point if you are on integrated graphics, unless you already have one.

Seeing what might transpire on black Friday, might even drop my wishes to a 1050ti if I could get it cheap ish

I've got the 6gb 1060 and it runs most games sweet. Better at 4k then I was expecting. Makes my vanilla ps4 look like a potato

Just upgraded my ps4 to a ps4 Pro all ready for Red Dead 2.

Already told this Mrs she won`t be seeing me much for a few months. Bring it on :)

Been trying to avoid info about RDR, purely because i'm being a mard arse. I believe there is a huge download once you put the disc into the console, and my rural internet download speed would mean I would be waiting forever. 10GB can take me a day to download. As far as I am concerned, RDR doesn't exist and I am keeping my fingers in my ears until the situation changes.

I'm very jealous haha.
Considering a used 960 as it would probably run most games @60fps in 1080p at high settings, can get them for less than £100
