General Videogame Thread

Okay I’m up for getting into a new strategy game. I used to love Sid Mieir’s civilisation back in the day. How does it compare?

You cant really compare the two games. CK3 is a grand strategy game and is very very complex. The learning curve is really steep and it can take you months to learn everything but once you get it and break through the learning curve You'll probably never go back to CIV. And i think CIV is a great series. I really liked CIV V & CIV VI but to me they just seemed too basic after playing CK2

Right - I am going back in.

Good luck and remember take your time and dont get frustrated!

This CK3 talk is pricking my ears ;-)

Looks incredibly in depth but thoroughly gripping.

Thanks mate. And would you recommend I tackle CK3 or is their any worth in my trying out cK2 first?

This is for @blueinsa as well

CK2 is free to play on steam so you have nothing to lose, however it doesn't hold your hand and you will need to go online to look at guides. Its also over 8 years old and it looks it! The interface is all over the place.

CK3 is included in xbox game pass for PC and you can pick up the 1st month for £1 so again nothing to lose.

CK3 looks miles better and although still incredibly complex it does a much better job of explaining the basics but again it can be a struggle to learn as there is so many layers. Coming from Civ you may have a slight advantage.

I posted a few videos for @SWP's back and @ultimateharold to take a look at a couple of pages back and i gave a few tips. The videos are really helpful

It can be really frustrating as you'll make loads of mistakes at first(even i have and ive got around 400 hours in CK2 which is nothing really!) but if you stick with and you get through the steep learning curve you'll find its one of the greatest games you will ever play

That is all I needed to know.

Incredible value the xbox games pass it really is.

I will now say goodbye to the wife for the day as i get it downloaded lol

Made a massive error. I wanted to play from the Duchy of Lancaster and was doing just fine until I was elected successor to Harold. As soon as he died I was then king of England and some wankers joined up as a faction against me and I lost half my kingdom.

Anyway, I’ve taken a time out to save the game and do some work for a few hours.

Giving up on Zelda Breath of Wild. Loved Ocarina of Time, but cannot get into it or and get really frustrated with the weapons breaking and effort to not die of freezing cold or an enemy that's just too powerful. Some really good stuff in there, but just doesn't sit right with amount of aimless wandering / time wasting. If anyone plays it, I got as far as Divine Beast Vah Ruta and that's only touching the surface. Ran out of arrows and couldn't be arsed trying to get that special one back from the very top of a waterfall.
