General Videogame Thread

Anyone know of any good first person shooter games which allows split screen? I am playing Gears 5 with my friend and it's enjoyable. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hmm, I don't play many games these days but I googled anyway because I was curious. Xbox One I take it?

Boarderlands 3 seems quite popular, never played any of those myself though. Halo series always has it, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty too.

Worth checking if the Halo 1 and 2 remasters have split screen campaign. It was certainly there in the original release on the original Xbox.

But yeah it has a extremely steep learning curve even if it's been streamlined from CK2.

Definitely do the tutorial that explains the absolute basics there is also a really good encyclopedia in bottom right hand corner of the screen which explains a lot of things.

For an absolute newbie start in Ireland 1066 and the county of Munster. Good start as England, Scotland France and Norway (who are the major European powers at that time) are all at war so they don't bother with Ireland for around 50 which gives you a good head start. Main goal for Munster is for the unification of Ireland which is pretty easy and you can do in around 25 years.

In my first game I did this and Norway won the battle of England beating Harold and William the conqueror so I formed an alliance with them and we both attacked Scotland then France.

Take your take and sort out your council. I can't stress how important this is. I spent nearly 2 hours sorting all that out before I even pressed the unpause button. Getting the right people in your council can get you insane bonuses like extra tax and better soliders.

Remember your playing as a family not a country think about the future all the time.

Alliances can be fantastic to help the future of your dynasty but picking the wrong one can be fatal so choose wisely and again think about it carefully.

You are going to fail. A lot. Learn from the mistakes.

Just a few tips but just practice. I found CK2 almost unplayable first few goes as it's so complicated however I just stick with it and then something just clicked then I was hooked.

There are some really good YouTubers who give really good advice and I learnt a lot though their playthoughs.

6 hours I've just spent, finally consolidating a nice little niche in the world. Wives, kids, all sorted out, educated, then get ganked by someone with no claims whilst I'm pressing a tenuous one of my own. Fuming, but I shall have vengeance. His next newborn should sleep with one eye open.

I’ve bought this and downloaded it now. Do you recommend waiting to play it until I’ve got a good few hours spare then for my first go?

Welcome to the world of Crusader Kings!!

Just little random stuff like that can absolutely ruin your kingdom.

The best/worst one which happened to me was in CK2.

Had a nice little kingdom where Estonia and Latvia are now. Everything was going great apart from I have no sons but had a daughter. My and my wife were both in 40's and she had turned into a lunatic and had caught the pox. I needed sons for my succession so I had my wife secretly bumped off and I banished my daughter.

Got married again to a younger wife and had 2 sons. Brilliant. I was in my late fifties and everything going great until my daughter had somehow managed to marry The Head of The Byzantine Empire! And she pressed a claim against me.

There was nothing I could do. I had around 4500 troops and she had around 25000. I tried to form an alliance with the holy Roman empire but the pope refused as my first wife died in mysterious circumstances so I tried to change the succession laws but that was taking 3 years and in that time my daughter had laid siege to my castle, had my 2 wife and my son's captured and executed and during the siege I died of old age. No heirs to carry on so game over.

I was gutted but at the same time I was laughing about the way it came about from my first wife becoming a lunatic.

It's just stuff like that which makes CK so compelling. Every time you play it it's always different.

Yeah it's not really a game you can just dip in and out of. Especially if your first time.

The tutorial takes around 90 minutes to 2 hours to complete. Also look up videos on YouTube for beginners guides. All together I would said you'll need 3-4 hours just for the absolute basics
