General Videogame Thread

There was so much anticipation leading up to starfield, feels like from what I read on here it was a bit of a let down and not the huge hit people thought it would be. I imagine that has a lot to do with why it will end up on PS.

Got to recoup the millions of pounds which it has lost without going to ps5 also app gears of war coming over aswell .

I’ve come this far without ever touching Elden Ring or indeed any other souls game. But with it being 40% off on steam right now and having some Steam vouchers from Christmas, I’m tempted. Just really unsure how to know whether I’ll like it.

If I’ve never played a game in the genre before, should I be avoiding it like the plague or would people still recommend going for it?
Isn't there a try before you buy with Steam? Admittedly it's very punishing game at first but once you begin to level up its a lot more enjoyable best game of the last few years. Try Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne if have a PS both exceptional games.

Just finished Ori and the Will of the Wisps, brilliant game, tested my fucking patience a few times lol.
Probably my favourite genre of game. Play Blind Forest too if you haven’t yet. Combat is different to Will of the Wisps, but it’s still a fantastic game. And it goes without saying, you must play Hollow Knight if you haven’t yet. The new Prince of Persia is also a top tier game in the genre. But I could recommend about 30 metroidvanias to be honest. Love them.

Loved platformers when I was younger including ratchet and clank, going to play all the ones on game pass. Not sure I can be bothered with celeste though after how stunning Ori was.

I know Dead Space remake had a 90 minute trial where you could play for free, but it’s not something widespread. They do offer full refunds on all games if you’ve played less than 2 hours though.

Celeste is probably in my top 5 games of all time. It’s difficult but the game design is such that I never found it to be a frustrating kind of difficult. When you die you instantly spawn in the same room to try again, so there’s no real cost or time wasted. You just go again.

Neither of these games are true metroidvanias like Ori and Hollow Knight, but they are roguelites with metroidvania elements - I recommend trying Dead Cells and Rogue Legacy 2.

I watched the speed run of Celeste on twitch it was crazy.

Subbed to Ubi+ for a month.

Playing the new Prince of Persia metroidvania. Brilliant game.

Looking forward to trying Assassins Creed Mirage and potentially Avatar too.
£15! Can't complain...

But for those who liked Ori, have a go on Prince of Persia - there's even a free demo - great game.

There’s a game coming out this year called Tales of Kenzera: Zau, which hits a lot of the same spots as Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. There is a free demo of it in the current Steam Next Fest, which ends on the 12th I think. So if you’re quick you can still try the demo of it. One to keep an eye on I think. Prince of Persia is better imo, but it’s still an enjoyable demo.

Not played Mirage yet, feel like £15 is abit steep for Ubi+ compared to GP ultimate, no idea why they went in at that price point.

Looks that way. Microsoft are set to make an announcement next week.

I also think gamepass will come to Sony and Nintendo via cloud gaming
Might sell my Xbox if that happens and get a ps5 for exclusives. Depends if the cloud gaming is the same standard as the normal stuff.

It is a bit steep but nice was about to buy Prince of Persia for £30 and so in essence I got it for £15.
If I finish it in time I'll also get to check AC and avatar too.
