General Videogame Thread

I'm in no rush to get into it but I was wondering if any Bluemooners had experience with Sega Saturn emulators/ROMs? There are guides online how to do it but would rather draw from our pool of knowledge if I can.

As a kid I had a Sega Saturn instead of a PS1 and I owned a game that would be considered fairly rare, Shining Force 3. Even now I still think the game can fetch 70/80 quid online, and it was probably one of the first games to be big enough to require a memory card (the Saturn actually used a lithium battery to power it's save function, but it took me many years to realise that). I broke out my Saturn from my loft at home in my early 20s and played SF3 for longer than I ever did as a kid, but got a good few hours in and realised my disc had an unrepairable glitch. If I was a lesser man I could sell this disc to a collector and they wouldn't know until I'd vanished off into the sunset.

The game is a trilogy but only the first part was released in English, with the other two only being released in Japan. Fan translations have been made and I'd really like to play this game in its entirety one day, so was just wondering if anyone on here had ever tried their hand at Saturn emulators.

Mednafen is the best one around I think. Last used my saturn emulators on laptop (midmarket HP) a year ago. Played some games like burning rangers and a clockwork knight and they seemed to run smoothly.

The.Eye

Is where I got my roms.

Sell your copy to somewhere like CEX, if you get the right member of staff they will overlook any faults, pair it with some other items to distract.

Look into aftermarket hardware options too if you want more than just this game.

The Mode is a recent bit of kit.

Clockwork Knight was another good one. My dad used to bring home demo discs and game magazines in those days and I had a cousin working in a game shop in Alty, that's now a Belgian bar. I can remember a football game on the Saturn where you could play as club teams and if you changed language settings to French or Spanish, you could play as their clubs too

There's a few. Funnily enough Sega made two rival series that overlapped on the Saturn.

Sega worldwide Soccer and Sega Virtua Striker.

Virtua Striker also has dreamcast and Gamecube updates/sequels.

Actua Soccer is another, a 3rd party title.

I have a RGH xbox 360 (modded to run unsigned code) and I believe most of the early machines have a running emulator. Personally never tried the Saturn one but i ran a few mega drive games on mine over the years when feeling nostagic.

EA just bought a games company in Wilmslow called Playdemic for $1.4bn. good for them, generally a good bunch of guys over there.

There big game is Golf Clash.

I once had a job interview lined up with them for communications manager. I couldn't get there and it was never rearranged. It was a few years ago. I could have asked for equity or sumat as part of the job. Imagine ffs

If it helps You wouldn't have got any :) it wasn't something they gave out lightly when I was there and they were wholly bought out by Warner Bros ( TT Games ) in 2017 so no equity to give at that point.

Irony is I doubt the previous owners of Playdemic got any of the EA money either, would have gone to Warner.
