General Videogame Thread

Has anybody played matchpoint tennis?

Watching Wimbledon has got me in the mood to play a tennis game. I used to love "Virtua Tennis" growing up.
 
Just finishing Assassin's Creed Valhalla. It's not a bad game but I've fallen out of love with each installment a little more after the freshness that was Origins.

Odyssey was great also and added in the ship combat, but mostly felt like a bit of a reskin, and Valhalla is just that same only this time I just can't be bothered with any of the dialogue. I appreciate the specific folk lore they're incorporating, even under artist license, such as the green children, but all in all I'm just rushing to the end to get the trophies now. Combat is boring because it's the same as Origins and Odyssey, sneak or charge in it doesn't really matter.

Like odyssey, if I'd picked up Valhalla first I'd be raving about it, but having played the last few installments I can see it's very formulaic. Could as well be AC OAPs home if they just change the assets and text.

I saw that the other day but just from the pictures that I have seen it look a bit Ropey to say the least.

Virtua tennis was the last decent tennis game about.! The arcade version was great. Used to love seeing that in an amusement arcade. Pat rafter/cedric pioline/yevgeny kefanilokov. Great days.

Feels there are very few decent sports games these days. I used to love Tiger Woods gold and feels like there are no decent golf games these days. Tried a few tennis ones recently and all were awful. Fifa is just rinse and repeat to exploit as much money from players as possible. I did really enjoy playing MLB the show a few years ago, but then the next year was just exactly the same so haven't played it since. Never really got into F1, but would love to (wont happen any time soon) get into it and build a driving rig to play on.

All in all, feels the sports genre is a bit dead and ruled by the whole EA buy to win rubbish.

Definitely agree there. No decent boxing games for years. FIFA is just a joke these days. The old days you had a decent fifa plus pro evo and even this is football.
The golf games are just clunky and lose enjoyment very quickly.
I played that riders republic a few times just for something different than shooting at things all the time.

I miss the days of sonic/mario/shinobi/ altered beast and outrun.

I didn’t play long mate, graphically it looked the business and it really was atmospheric I didnt realise it wasn’t the full game until after about 30 mins lol, anyway I binned it thinking I’ll pick up the full game when it’s cheap.

I’ve played fifa this year a bit and it’s just a slog without paying loads of money to open packs to try and build your side.

I even downloaded madden the other day as it was free on ps5 and it was awful. Just fifa but for American football.

Just downloaded city skylines and gonna try and get into that.
