General Videogame Thread

Glad I started the download at 5 minutes past midnight on launch day now... Once the hype train got going it was always going to get tough.
 
I've just realised the frame rate limiter is really dodgy. I had it set to 30fps and it was running at half rate V sync aka 20fps even though when I switched it off it ran at like 40fps??

So no idea why it was dragging it down to 20fps when it could've capped it at 30fps.

I wonder how much difference I would've seen on my i5 with that setting changed...

Oh well went out and bought an i7 (i7 4790) today and increased my RAM to 16gb. It's running pretty much dead on 30fps on all High settings at 1080p so I'm dead chuffed that this ancient PC has come good.

Yeah the vsync is knackered. Just bought a bigger SSD for it and the difference is night and day.
 
I never use vsync on any flight sim. Does fuck all other than introduce stutters. Let it run at whatever it can i say. MSFS 2020 is simply stunning. Im getting a constant 60FPS plus with a mixture of ultra and high settings.
 
Gave in and got fall guys.

Playing it while my 6 year old son is watching and he thinks the the funniest thing ever watching me fail. Constantly!

It's a great game and once you learn the maps it does get easier but some rounds are just absolute mayhem! Found myself laughing loads.

Just a really fun game to chill out with

Seesaw when you start on the back row is just the most frustrating round imaginable.

I caved and went for a 2080s. It was perfectly serviceable on the old 980ti but the time spent in this will more than make it worth it.

What CPU are you using mate? It's always about balance and you don't want to be CPU throttled either. Key is having both at full performance with the other matching.

Considering people do 24hr sim racing quite often I don’t think I’ll be impressed until I see a around the world flight done. You can switch off fuel usage so its just a matter of doing it...

If they can keep the 747 doing an average of 550mph then it should take around 45 hours to cover the 24860 miles around the circumference of the earth. That’s definitely doable for a team of three.

Intel or Ryzen?

I went Ryzen. Incredible processors and for me, the future with bang for buck second to none. Sure Intel still that bit faster, especially on a flight sim but spending literally £200 more for maybe 10FPS when the Ryzen is giving you over 60FPS anyway on max settings? Either way enjoy :-)
