General Videogame Thread

Had a wee sneaky couple of hours with Cyberpunk last night. This is going to be a game you can sink hours into without really doing that much, it's totally engrossing.
Didn't really encounter any bugs as far as I could tell, certainly nothing obvious and it ran really well on my system which is reasonably high end, although I wasn't sure how much it would punish my RTX 2080 Super. First impressions are promising in terms of performance.
The map does seem like it will be pretty hideous as you rack up more quests and icons appear all over it, would hope something gets done with that.
Main issue so far was any menus auto scrolling right down to the bottom when I had my PS4 controller connected which made it pretty unplayable. Had to restart my PC with it disconnected and just go with mouse and keyboard to resolve that.

Something tells me that a RTX 2080 Super will handle it just fine, if they're making video games that that monster can't tame we may as well switch the lights out and go home.

Wow, the Witcher 3 is 70% off on Steam. £7.49 or £10.49 with both DLC’s. I still haven’t played it so I think I’m going to take advantage of this whilst I wait for a better gaming experience with Cyberpunk 2077.

8 million pre-orders for Cyberpunk across all platforms, and 1,000,000 concurrent players on Steam. This thing is an absolute juggernaut.

I went back to it after not really getting into it first time round and im now about 12 hours into it, love it. Just threw it on this week and it clicked.

It is amazing the fanboydom coming to the defence of CDPR in a collective attempt to argue that releasing a substandard (if not broken) game on the consoles it began development on, for the same price as the PC version, is somehow not the developer’s fault. So many saying “it was never going to run well on last gen hardware, just buy a PS5/XBSX”, despite it being in development for years on last gen, and last gen being able to handle beautifully rendered, complex system games like RDR2 and TLOU2 at the end of their cycles. Not to mention, again, that if it was never going to run well on last gen consoles, it should never have been offered for pre-order on last gen. It doesn’t matter if there was pressure from Sony and Microsoft to shift development to optimisation for next gen hardware, the decision to still release the game on last gen is on CDPR.

Truly hilarious the mental gymnastic fanboys can do — whilst later expressing the same complaints about some other developer (like EA or Bethesda).

Also mate, they banned content creators from using anything other than CDPR footage when producing their early reviews. Footage exclusively on high end PC. That was a huge red flag. I get the love for them, as the Witcher 3 seems to be the greatest game ever created for a lot of people, but they have taken everyone for a ride with Cyberpunk. It’s disgraceful.

Yeah, I spoke about that and the fact that they only released PC review code in this thread last night. They were looking to hide the extensive issues with the last gen versions, which made up a large portion of pre-orders (even larger than anticipated because of the unforeseen supply chain issues and more predictable artificial scarcity of the next gen consoles).

Anyone arguing this wasn’t a brazen play to avoid pre-order cancellations and lost launch sales is being intellectually dishonest.

I might purchase this myself. I played it briefly but did not have the time and lost interest. At that price it is worth another attempt.

Just so I don’t look like a CDPR hater ( ;-) ), I wanted to say that I highly recommend The Witcher 3. I have beaten the main game and several of the DLC expansions and enjoyed every minute of it.

I won’t go in to a longwinded review, but for me, as someone that loves open-world RPGs, along with Elder Scrolls (though, who knows if Bethesda pulls a Cyberpunk with the next iteration seeing how Fallout 76 turned out), it is how open world games are meant to play and look.

This is why Cyberpunk is even more of a disappointment for me — I had tried to not let the extreme hype cloud my expectations but I was still looking forward to a great game like TW3. I could especially have used an immersive world experience to distract from my real one right now.

Oh well, back to trying to finish Kingdom Come: Deliverance, I guess.

Buying a PS5 you cheap ****.

Buying a PS5 you cheap ****.
Have one you’re selling?

Edit: and you genuinely don’t think this debacle is on GDPR and that the solution is just for everyone to buy a PS5, those that pre-ordered on the last-gen consoles can get ****ed?

A game that pushes the 3090 to it's limits in 4k is hardly going to look good on 7 year old tech. It's the same anytime there is a next gen old gen overlap, they should just make it exclusive to the new gen and save the hassle.
You spelt fraud wrong. ;-)

I bought it and couldn't get into it either! Do you have to persist for a bit?

We have been playing games long enough to know what a demanding game looks like and if your platform can handle it. Remember playing GTA on a poor PC where the buildings wouldnt load when I was driving haha.
Haha, yeah, I’ve already said earlier I kind of saw it coming, hence why I didn’t pre-order. But just because many could see the trainwreck steaming on its way, doesn’t mean it is fine it happens. If anything, that makes it worse.

Continue to have low standards, you’ll continue to get **** outcomes.

As you said, if they had integrity, they would have just cancelled the last gen versions and made it a next gen exclusive. No reason to make ridiculous excuses to explain away fraudulent behaviour. No one did it with No Man’s Sky.

It’s CDPR fandom, plain and simple.
