Do as instructed and you get to enjoy another breakfast.
Maybe. Maybe not.

Yes,i understand things can be done differently, but the risk increases greatly, and why when American Cops have been given this method of protection should they put their own lives on the line when they don't have to?scroll back - somebody put on the thread 4 examples of a knifeman being detained by the Police yesterday. The difference was they were in the UK where Police aren't routinely armed. It can be done. Must UK Cops don't want to be armed because they know that will just escalate things and every bag snatching scally and car thief will want a gun to use against their perceived threat and so the cycle of killings would begin.
If the shooting cannot be justified,as i realise does happen.....then the officers involved should be brought to trial.Maybe. Maybe not.

Yes, should, being the operative word, but it doesn't happen.
And because it doesn't happen, and there's so many highly publicised incidents where people have been killed by police despite following instructions, a lot of people in America don't beleive they will be fine if they follow instructions.
You mistake my position. I was simply commenting on the tragedy of the situation. I wasn't ascribing blame to anyone...Criminal record as long as your arm, dozens of previous calls to him, running around threatening police with a knife. What outcome do people expect?
10ft away? so less than 2 seconds to close that gap and kill an officer.
His path in life was made decades before-how he ended up here is very sad but this is not the fault of the police and certainly not a reason to loot and riot.
In 99% of cases when you do as instructed you survive. And in 99% in which someone was killed, they were actively doing something other than what was requested of them...Maybe. Maybe not.
Define many...Yes, should, being the operative word, but it doesn't happen.

If these incidents do happen, why would suspects be better off by not following instructions?Yes, should, being the operative word, but it doesn't happen.

No. Approx 2 seconds to close that gap and kill an officer. So draw taser, fire, miss-stabbed. Fire, hit, only connect with outer clothing-stabbed.No - he had mental health issues. Do you not think one of the cops should have drawn his tazer rather than his weapon and taken the first shot?
