Gerald Sinstadt RIP

I disagree Dickie. Atkinson's comments at the end were suggesting "either of the coloured lad" for man of the match. That might sound rather crass by our standards today, but was normal even neutral language then. Atkinson did well with the "Three Degrees" at WBA, and had a decent record of promoting black players at the rags' and particularly Villa.

Nowadays we tend to think of him for stupid comments about Desailly in a CL game I think, which were very fuckwit like. Think he was a plonker but not a racist. What about the rags' booing the WBA forwards? Completely racist and called out by Gerald.

Watching these match clips, you think how the game has moved on, but there were always marvellous technical players around. The Comms were literally calling the action, never be accused of favouritsm. We are complete light years away from that with what we've got now, all about the product and entertainment, rather than sporting contest.
I know where you're coming from, but he could just have said their names, not distinguished them by the colour of their skin

And you only have to watch the video of our players leaving the swamp on Saturday to confirm the rags haven't moved on

The term "coloured" was indeed used regularly back in the 60s and 70s. My parents went on Anti-Apartheid marches in the 60s yet a couple or so years ago I once had to carefully tell my eighty something Mum that the term "coloured" is no longer acceptable nowadays, even though sh used it neutrally, and she hasn't got a racist bone in her body.

I was so disappointed with Atkinson when he user the N word when referring to Dessailly especially because he promoted Black players at a time when some managers like Gordon Lee would not select them. There is no excuse for using that word ever.

When I started watching Kick off as a kid
I couldn't pronounce his first name
I thought it was General
Not Gerald
