Gerald Sinstadt RIP

From a time before commentators thought they were as important as the game and imagined they were celebrities in their own right. 'Football' - as it was imaginatively titled - Sunday afternoons on Granada late 60s to late 70s. Gerald the calm, measured voice doing the game and the post match interviews. Very fond memories of him being the soundtrack to my earliest football memories.
Then it became Kick Off and Elton Welsby arrived and things started to go downhill.

RIP Gerald.

He never seemed totally at ease with the Friday night Kick Off ( Tranmere always played on a Friday night don’t know why I remember that!) he was a commentator. Not the greatest presenter. He commented on the football match playing out before him and kept it simple, informative and neutral. Hugh Johns, Kenneth Wolstenholme, Gerald Sintadt and Barry Davies masters at their craft. RIP.

Decent commentator, like Hugh John's (did the Midlands games I remember?) and Peter Jones and Bryon (?)Butler on Radio 2, commentaries that basically described the games without all the other shit.
Loved Hugh John's - even though most times he was commentating on us getting a pasting from Forest or Leicester or even Stoke!
