Germany: Car driven into people at Xmas markets.

Crikey, ANOTHER attack in Germany. Wonder if this one will also be by someone who is an ‘anti-Islam activist’ like the one at the Christian Xmas markets in December?
Seems like an attack happens daily in Germany. It’s sad what Europe is becoming. These attacks used to be shocking and now they just mingle in with the rest of the news.

The police are not calling it as a deliberate attack and not ruling out an accident. Driver arrested. Heavily armed police out in force. At one dead and many injured. The SUV rammed into pedestrians around busy stalls connected with the carnival - today is Rose Monday. I’ve visited Mannheim - very sad.

The alleged driver who caused the fatal accident already has a criminal record: he was sentenced to a short prison sentence for assault over ten years ago. His last crime was in 2018: he posted a comment on Facebook, for which he was sentenced to a fine. There is still no evidence of right-wing populist views.

According to public prosecutor Romeo Schüssler, the man works as a landscape gardener, is not married and has no children. Investigators also do not know of any partners.

Just goes to show, there isn't a problem with islamist terrorists entering Europe via the streams of migrants/refugees - it's the far right that are the worry.

I wondered, when news of this was first emerging, why the police said was no “political motive” where they usually call it “possible terrorism” …and that he had history of mental illness. I guessed then he was a native German.

Although I would imagine that there have been a lot more Islamist than far-right acts of terror committed in Germany in recent times, it’s worth noting that in 2022, the German police launched their largest anti-terror operation in modern history, preventing a far-right plot to violently overthrow the state. The network included a former MP of the far-right populist party AfD & ex-elite soldiers.

Going back quite a bit further, between 2000 and 2007, members of the German terrorist organisation National Socialist Underground murdered nine migrants, one female police officer, and plotted a total of over 40 assaults, including explosives attacks.

And in 2019, the mayor of the German city of Kassel, Walter Lübcke, was assassinated by a far-right terrorist.

A few of these car attacks have been white Germans.

As regards far right radicalism in. Germany I suggest researching 'Day X' which demonstrates the lengths they will go to
There was a New York Times podcast series about it
