Germany: Car driven into people at Xmas markets.

The attacker hasn’t been officially identified as yet so I don’t see how claiming to know who it is off some post on X is helping anyone?

Isn’t that what happened and was rightfully derided after the Stockport attack?

The suspect isn't a Muslim anymore. He is an ex-muslim who hates Islam and has been active in helping other Saudis claim asylum in Germany.
Why is that always the most significant debate in all this.

If he is, call it that, guess it even, shouldn't change anything. An extremist attack in the name of something he has completely misappropriated. Hardly an excuse for vilifying 44m people in Europe.

And if he isn't, hardly the reason Not to villify them, or to pause doing so till the next possible muslim does something vile.

The two should not be linked, and if news are holding off declaring motivations, maybe they are just waiting to find out.

And changes nothing for the victims, including those that end up living in fear.

Because there's a photo of the suspect being detained and it appears to be the same bloke in the video with the BBC from 2019. It's not the same as spreading a complete falsehood with no evidence no how much you want it to be.

Ahh right, it appears to be the same bloke?

That’s ok then, crack on with your fucking hypocrisy.

You seem to have misinterpreted something. It's a relevant factor because of the people jumping in assuming he's a Muslim.

Read the thread I was replying to.

The security protocols at Birmingham Christmas Market are insane. The level of planning and thought that goes into it is mind blowing. It will be the same in Manchester etc…I expect Germany will have to undergo a similar loss of innocence.

It’s the same with metal detection going into clubs. iirc, even the Haç didn’t have one after it went moody. It certainly was almost unheard of in the ‘90s. Same going into a City game. Unthinkable a generation ago.

Shutters on retail shops. Used to be rare, are now the norm.

So many aspects of our society point to it getting worse. More violent and less safe. Irrespective of what the figures say, my eyes tell me differently.

I have no issue with people jumping to assume he is muslim. Heck, I would assume he is muslim. Until/unless it emerges otherwise, when it won't particularly change much.

My issue isn't the guess itself, it is the stated or implied sentiment behind it, and the political stance it is used for.

My main point is it shouldn't matter, as much as we make it out to. Him doing it for any other reasons makes no more palatable either.

It's not so much the assumptions that are unhelpful but the fact they stick to it even when it is confirmed not be the case. It's not about the tragedy but the opportunity to air their views about X group.
