The parallels with the Thatcher (v Mendes) incident are really obvious, aren't they? Also, can you imagine the indignant outrage if Brown had been the perpetrator rather than the victim?
Gerrard will get away with it because the FA haven't a vertebrae between them when it comes to punishing England players. The clue is in the press angle "Benitez feels Gerrard has nothing to answer for"... even thougfh he didn't actually see the incident.
Gerrard always had a bit (ok, a lot) of the devil in him (not necessarially a bad thing in itself, of course) but he's now become a nasty, conniving, whinging little shit - just like good old Captain Marvel, from over the road, did when he knew his talent was going off the boil.
