Gerry Gow - RIP

Really sad to come in and read this about Gerry. As many have said what an instant impact he had on the team, a proper leader on the pitch and a very capable footballer too.

RIP fella, thanks for the memories.

Very sad news.

Not at City very long, but he was an instant hero for supporters, who had seen us fall from the heights of League Cup success to relegation certainties in a short time.

R. I. P. Gerry.

Absolutely gutted to hear that Gerry has passed away.
Can't believe he only played 36 times for us, seems like he was there much longer.
Loved watching him dive into tackles, the guy was fearless and as many have said he could play too.
R.I.P Gerry you will always be a legend to the blues who watched the 81 team.

Legend, the Everton away game in the cup is one of my favourite City games i have attended .He deserved a cup winners medal for the change him Hutch and Bobby had at the club.

very sad.

I remember him signing for city and fans saying "tough guy we have here". How true it was, he came along at the same time as winger tommy hutch, they picked city up under Bond. Great games crammed in at everton for fa cup qtr final / villa park semi / then wembley both matches.

sincere condolences to gerry's family.

I'm so, so sad to hear of the passing of Gerry Gow who was one of my first favourites at City. He was signed in my first season at City, 1980/81 and helped us go from the relegation zone to mid table safety a League Cup Semi and those FA Cup Finals. What a man. What a player. We really loved his tough tackling style and chanted his name. We loved Gerry Gow and still do. Rest in peace. Gerry.

It was actually only 26. Surprised me too

Sad news , they broke the mould when players like Gerry Gow were around he was a brilliant signing and a fearless competitor and with Bobby Mac and Hutch John Bond transformed a team heading for relegation into a very decent outfit , my thoughts go to his family

Very sad news. Gerry made quite an impression at my club Rotherham as these local paper tributes bear out
Sadly died of cancer aged 64.
Older fans will remember Gow as an old fashioned combative midfielder who played for Man City v Spurs in the 1981 Cup final & replay. He also played with distinction for Bristol City & my club Rotherham, before a brief spell at Burnley. He also had a spell as Yeovil's manager.
I remember his time at Millmoor with affection. We were third bottom of what is now the Championship (no change there then) when we played Derby at home at the beginning of February 1982 when Gerry made his debut. Gerry then proceeded to get sent off within 5 minutes & almost immediately we went a goal down. Against the odds, the siege mentality under the management of Emlyn Hughes kicked in & we won the game 2-1. What followed was a Football League record of the most consecutive League wins in one Calendar month (NINE) with Gerry (after suspension) playing a full part.
Gerry was known for his tough tackling & ball winning attributes, but he had a good range of passing with a right foot shot like a hammer. A sad day.

RIP Gerry. He picked up our team by the bootstraps for that short period he played. Two fantastic cup runs that season and, as far as I am concerned, we were robbed of two trophies. To younger fans: he was an earlier and, perhaps more mobile, version of De Jong. Loved him as did the whole Kippax.

my abiding memory of Gerry Gow is the 1981 fa cup final replay, city leading 2-1, he cleaned ardiles out with a tackle, it was too much for a spurs fan who entered the pitch, approached Gerry, who was being ticked off, Gerry just gave the spurs fan a nice little wink as if to say, anytime you like fella. The cup run in 1981 was brilliant, great memories as a kid, we should have won the bloody thing. Rest in peace Gerry

R.I.P Gerry Gow and condolences to family and friends. What a special time that 80-81 period was, pulling away from probable relegation, 2 big emotionally charged cup runs.......and a documentary on the telly !! Could only be City, we're blessed. Thank you for your short-lived but massive contribution to MCFC Gerry, you will always be in the big light blue heart that is Manchester City

Loved watching that city team with gow, hutch and bobby mac.
Didn't win nothing but give me lots of happy memories..
RIP Mr gerry gow..BLUEMOON

Sad sad day.

Not many players make an immediate impact on fans and not many are legends wherever they go. Even fewer are still talked about 30+ years later. Gerry was one of those special few.

They broke the mould when they made Gerry

RIP fella. We will prob never see your like again.

Ps don't kick the man upstairs too hard when you get there.
