Sure, its frustrating when things go slow, but this is a free site and we need to remember that. I'm just glad to be part of the community here...

I don't see why they don't have a donate option on here where people can donate to a Paypal account if they wish. I have done this on for forums I have administrated in the past and it works quite well.

A number of people would probably be happy to donate a bit but we don't have a way of donating...

I admire your faith in us, and no doubt a few would be prepared to contribute. I would. But talk is cheap and sadly the vast majority usually choose to whistle and look away when asked for voluntary contributions. I doubt it would raise more than a few hundred quid, which really isn't going to go anywhere.

Cut out guest viewing.....force people to log on short term .......that would create some breathing time and also improve performance, until a better fix can be applied ....simples : )

Well if you get sick of this one crashing there are plenty listed on the mcfc.co.uk website in the fans section to try as alternatives. I personally run one along with another member off here, I shant say its name but it has no advertising and always runs fast, it is yet to crash. Although it is very new so thats no great acheivment. Look to my avatar

Very slow for over a week, cannot connect, general error etc etc.... Not very good for the so called no. 1 forum of our great club. Can we get it sorted. If the reason is (as somebody posted earlier) that somebody has been on holiday for a week thats pretty poor. If you are not generating enough income through advertising then you have the wrong business model. It is only going to become more congested as we become more successful.

it's a site for fans, not a money making exercise. Your moaning won't speed anything up.

Just checked the numbers on the site and it's less than 100 registered users and twice as many guests. I speak to a lot of people who say "I read the site but don't post" but if registration only is a way of improving performance then perhaps we should do that. On the other hand I look at some sites every now and again and don't post but if I really wanted to go on these then I'd register.

There are many ways to reduce the database load. Here are just a few suggestions :-

1) Only allow registered users to view the forums. As I'm writing this there are 192 guests viewing the forum.

2) Impose a time restriction between posts i.e. 30-60 seconds between creating posts.

3) Set a minimum amount of posts for new users to be able to create threads. So new users would have to have at least 50 replies (or whatever) before they can actually start to create new threads of their own.
