They don't exist, like God.

Are you having a laugh?

Several years ago I was on a campsite in northern France one cold and windy night. It had just started raining and there was thunder in the air. A couple of mates in the tent next to mine popped their heads in and told me to watch out because the campsite was supposed to be haunted. I laughed it off and when they left I curled up in my sleeping bag looking forward to a peaceful night's sleep. A couple of minutes later, I heard some whispering coming from the direction of their tent... very sinister-sounding. Then, suddenly, the shape of a man was silhouetted on the canvas right next to my face and emitting from it came a terrible "WoooOOOooooh! WooOOOoooOOOOooh!" I've never been so frightened.

Was God staying on the same campsite as you then?

the thing is there is no proof, and there never will be, its impossible to know if they exist until we are dead. The only way to prove it is recordings, but usually there is scepticism about whether videos are a hoax or not. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZV2jb_RU2fU

my girl friend used to see a ghost when she was younger. apparently a little girl used to come out of a crack in the wall and talk to her all the time. my gf says she can remember her face clearly. when she was older she found out that a young girl had died in that room. my girl friend is very intelligent and trustworthy and i have no reason to believe that she is making it up or that she is crazy. i havent seen a ghost but i trust my gf.

i once saw a show about ghosts and hauntings in england. and these guys went to all the major haunted sites across the UK, where famous ghosts have been seen, or where people regularly see them.

anyway the one common factor? all of the places where near to or on top of electrical fault lines.

they think that the image of ghosts or appiritions comes from having a part of your brain triggered by a small electrical current which manifests itself in a way that cant be explained and is put down as ghosts by people who want to see ghosts, basically they believe theyve seen something and because they want it to be a ghost, they transform it to that in their head.

mind this doestn explain how two people see the same thing and stuff.

but still an interesting idea

What's an 'electrical fault line'?

Makes more sense than dead people coming back to haunt us.
