Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

I really do think we need to get over this ‘good with his feet’ argument regarding our keeper.

The way we are now I’m not sure we have the luxury of using that as a barometer for a keeper. Ederson came in at the perfect time for us and has been amazing no doubt, but other teams have caught up/we’ve dropped off and we aren’t as dominant technically all over the pitch now that we were 2/3 years ago.

If Ederson goes and Donnaruma comes in it’s an upgrade and nobody will talk me out of that thinking. He’s miles superior in the core aspects of keeping the ball out of the net

I think Pep is planning to use different style keepers in different style of oppositions. Maybe trafford in more possession based matches and Donnarumma in matches that require shotsopping more.

There manager has literally said he wants a different "style of keeper" while acknowledging Donarumma is the best keeper in the world.....

This is what Pep did with Joe Hart all those years ago. Everyone knew Hart was a decent shot stopper but probably couldnt adapt to playing out with his feet...

Pep will have to change his style of build up with Donarumma cause if he doesnt he will just get pressed and give goals away

We were giving goals away anyway last season with Eddie (not only his fault though). A change is needed, teams have got wise to the passing out from the back. We’ll probably concede fewer with a good shot stopping keeper and if the ball is launched upfield instead of rolled out to Akanji for example.

It’s a double whammy of hilarity of getting a player above the rags but also them having to blag they’re happy with their goalkeeping situation when what they have is absolutely shit!
Yep they’ve been desperate to get rid of Onanana. Of that there is no doubt.

I'd say £25m+ for an Ortega replacement is pretty nuts.

I think the intention was fight with Ederson for 1st choice this season and he'll be in a strong position next season.

The Donnarumma availability wasn't expected but the scenario is still the same this season, the HG element is important though, so it's definitely not wasted as we have no non-HG space.

What does change is next season, if Trafford isn't getting game time he may want to leave but that's a next season problem. This season is still almost identical with Ederson or Donnarumma.

Is Donnarumma out of contract next year? Could it be a 12 month loan from PSG - seems made to get two keepers like this in one window. Understood Trafford coming to compete with Ederson but knowing he was going in 12 months but this, if true, seems very different concept.
