Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

I don’t believe for a second that they bought a player who played in the Championship last year and *promised* him the #1 spot for next season
I can’t see it, at all
They’ll have offered him the opportunity to play for it, like with Ortega and Ederson last season, they’ll have both gotten games.

Signing a world star in Donnaruma on a long contract puts an end to his chances, because likewise, why would he join without assurances ?

And saying championship keeper devalues the lad, there’s a reason a host of premier league clubs wanted him.

I agree, someone would have been brought in to replace Ederson who was a well established top keeper next year aswell 100% Competition is good. If Trafford has anything about him he'll be up for the fight.

Exactly what I’ve been saying and getting shot down on here.

Those of you that think the club meticulously plans everything have no idea.

We panic bought Trafford after we realised we couldn’t shift Ederson, Donnaruma was unlikely and Trafford was edging towards Newcastle.

Now there’s panic interest in Donnaruma because we might be able to shift Ederson.

We went for Plan B, and now we’re trying to go back to Plan A.

If we sign Donnaruma we’ve fucked the young lad over big style.
That makes no sense, if Eddy has decided to stay he would still be Pep’s no1 this season & Trafford would have known that.

Ornstein, in the latest podcast that came out about an hour ago, mentioned that City's negotiations with Trafford were based on him being the team's first-choice goalkeeper.

This was probably true! And as much as that was probably the plan if donnaruma does come in and trafford sees his arse are we that bothered? Just flog him to newcastle for the same price we paid in Jan. It really isn't a big deal upsetting trafford, hes not haaland. Ultimately a top 3 keeper In the world has become available unexpected and city have saw an opportunity and are pouncing. I feel for trafford but its not really a big deal, worst comes to worst he gets 2 big pay days in 1 year and moves on.

It’s likely we would have seen them both get games like with Ortega and Ederson last season, Eddy almost lost his place last year.

By the end of the season, my money would have been on Trafford getting the nod as first choice.

Then the club would have the decision to make on whether he’s good enough the season after, but at least he’ll have had a chance with Ederson going.

Signing Donnaruma on a long contract is not the same scenario for the lad whatsoever.

Players get injured, lose form, all sorts of things can happen
Trafford seems a confident lad who backs himself and his talent to eventually come out on top, whoever the competition. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if people on here are more arsed than he would be

Yep. Not an effing chance.

Players, no matter the position, must play for their place. Simple as that.

Football, like life, changes quickly. Is it tough on Trafford? Of course but that's football at the highest level for you. He'll be okay if it happens. Get the cup games and fight for the number one spot. If he impresses but still can't displace Donnarumma then another top club will still come in for him.

He’d also have known it was Edersons last season and he had a year to stake a claim to be number 1 before we decide who replaces Ederson.

It doesn't put an end to his chances.
It gives him to opportunity to fight for a position that is competitive in nature.
Footballers are conditioned to fight for their starting position. Its the nature of the beast.
Trafford will get his chances if Edy or Donna are there, unless he proper fucks up his audition. Same with Edy or Donna.
