Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

Signing Donnarumma would be fantastic if Eddie goes. I just can’t see it though unfortunately, we don’t seem to be interested in these kind of signings sadly.
He’s the best around in my book.

Although it looks like PSG won the CL comfortably, this bloke made some world class saves at critical moments and he’d be brilliant for us.

Like Donnarumma a lot but don’t see it happening for a few reasons

- he just won a treble why would he leave
- I think he’s the complete opposite of Ederson. Idk if Pep could be comfortable with someone so different and struggles with his feet
- he earns a lot at PSG like 250k+ the club wanted to reduce their wage bill
- doesn’t fix our HG issue

I’d get him in FIFA but not real life

Feel like Donnaruma will be Courtois' successor and they both do two more seasons at their respective clubs before that change happens. They could even swap clubs after the World Cup.

Would be a Rags type of signing, where you just go all out for a big name with absolutely no strategy behind it, and no clarity on how you intend to structure your team and playing style.

Just names to excite sponsors and generate engagement in the media and on socials.

Donnarumma is so completely different to Ederson that we’d have to totally change our style of play to accommodate him - no more playing out from the back, and a completely different approach to our defensive line, which are cornerstones to the entire City style.

He’s a great keeper, no doubt - but he’s the antithesis of a City keeper, and I don’t believe our board are stupid enough to go all in for a big name just because, when it’s pretty clear he wouldn’t work in our team.
Joe Hart agrees with this post ;)

Lucas Chevalier Growing Closer to PSG

PSG has entered a concrete phase of negotiations regarding the signing of Lille's French goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier.

This Saturday, only details remained to be resolved between the Northerner and PSG.

At least €40 million will be required.

Lille has already explored foreign prospects for his replacement.

Why not sign the 1st option ?

I would rather sign Chevalier than Donnarumma

Not good enough with his feet to do what Pep expects.
I would be v surprised if we were really interested…

So he is not good with feet but people still want him because he saves well.
So ball playing stuff can be compromises as long as keeper saves well?
How does this work?

Maybe new tactics don’t rely as heavily on a ball playing goalkeeper

Donnaruma has overplayed his hand here. To me, despite him being a great shot stopper, he looked a weakness in PSGs build up play. Anytime i watched him i thought theyd be much better with ederson(or similar in goal). Enrique must have thought the same, donnaruma thought he was invincible and they have quickly moved to show him he isnt. He likely wanted stupid money and PSG have shown with messi etc that they are moving on from that kind of player.

Where he goes now, i dont know. He is not suited to us even if we didnt have Trafford lined up. Rags cant afford him, Maresca will have similar reservations as Pep/Enrique but is a clear step up from Sanchez(whos not great despite performance in CWC final). Not many obvious candidates in europe with big clubs, maybe back to Italy for him but not sure who needs a keeper there.

A small tactical change. Another reason for a shot stopper.
No. The same ball playing goalkeeper has been fundamental to his whole career and all the success he and in turn we have had. Peps not changing this late into his career, a ball playing keeper is unrelated to the “suicidal high line”, he will make changes to prevent this but the keeper regardless of all other changes will have to be comfortable with the ball at his feet and be able to play out under pressure.
