Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

I dont think anyone is arguing that Donarumma is not an exceptional keeper...certainly not me....he is one of the best shot stoppers (if not the best) out there.

What I think some people have questions about is how this affects the back 4 especially at a point when our back 4 hasnt looked as strong as it has in previous seasons. (Walker gone and no right fullback that is any good Akanji decline, Stones absent a lot of the time, Ake absent a lot and potentially one young and while talented, very raw defender in Khusonov) - this coupled with the knowledge that Pep rarely wholesale changes the way he approaches the game. A huge part of his success over the last near decade has been his build up play from the back involving the keeper. (remember we got rid a of a decent shot stopper in Hart for a keeper who can play with his feet).

Some people believe that this playing out from the back has been sussed....it hasnt - teams have stopped pressing us (but this isnt being sussed out - its giving up on their part) because they cant as Ederson is too good. If we suddenly have a keeper who is known to be weak with his feet then teams will start to press again (we see it in cup games over the years when we have played the reserve keeper) - our build up goes to shit a little. Now couple that with the defensive issues we already have and the uncertainty around that back 4 -this rightfully brings into peoples minds questions of why we are bothering with this. Add in the Trafford factor and that just fuels it more. Add tot his the question of will a manager like Pep who is so rooted in certain factors of his play, going to make wholesale changes a week before the season? Ive seen people say Donarumma could be taught..yes possibly but not quickly and as others point out, nowhere near the level of Ederson (who is just a freak of nature in this aspect) - at least Trafford will have been brought up with our way of playing out fromthe back considering he came through our youth set up so even though he isnt as good as Ederson we already know he at least knows how to do it

Now there are a number of possible answers

1, Donarumma has suddenly become available (unexpectedly) - he is a world class keeper and top teams dont turn down the opportunity to buy world class players (especially at the prices being mentioned) so of course the club move for him.

2. Ederson has made it clear he wants to leave (now we dont know this for sure BUT the questions around this have been out there for quite a while -no smoke without fire etc along with what fans can see with their own eyes in the drop off (a little) in his attitude...this coupled with point 1 just adds reason.

3. We are being used by agents/media (Romano) to gain clickbait and interest from other clubs - the rumours around Ederson all window have just helped this and cockroaches like Romano are just using it to earn money and create a possible more interesting story (Donarumma chooses utd over city etc) - this is a well worn play book of the media creating division/antagonism between clubs and fans to drive their own agendas, create clicks on websites etc etc etc.

4. All 3 could be true at the same time.

Guess we will just have to wait and see....my feeling is we are being used as bait for utd....but could be very wrong..
That is some mad, paranoid rant to come to the conclusion that it’s an agenda thing that he chooses rags over us. It’s a trend on this forum that is like an inferiority complex people can’t shake.

United are nobody. They’re literally nobody and they’re mocked in the media. We are top table.

If it was 15 years ago you’d have a point. We are in for the top keeper in the world because we are one of the top clubs in the world amongst Real, Barca and Bayern.

Yep, I can see that happening.

United will throw everything at him to sign for them.

Simon Stone, United’s PR mouthpiece, stated on BBC Football, United weren’t interested in signing him, yesterday.

All lined up so the rag media can say he rejected us for them blah blah blah

What? - that was one point....I also suggested that he could come to us...I said I only feel he could end up at the rags - it is their type of signing over the last decade. And they have been linked to him. IM not saying they are anyone, but they are still regarded as a team to play for...whether thats cause of the media, their "history" or just the name - hate it but its also true ( i wish it wasnt)

I also said your last point - you dont turn down the opportunity to turn down a genuine world class keeper.

Interesting you use the word paranoid....maybe look in a mirror pal

Another one. You realise who Manchester City are, and who Manchester United aren’t now?
We were already bigger than them when Pogba chose them over us.
And Sanchez
And rat face Fernandes (we were linked to him quite a bit before he went there)
How many times have they gone for out targets....right back to Berbatov

They have never ever got over Tevez coming to us - it pains them

No paranoia here. I know who we are in the scheme of things. We are top dog and if players want to come to us we will get them.

No way we let Ederson go unless Donnarumma is in the bag

Aguero would have definitely been given assurances that he'd be our starting striker before he joined. Otherwise he would have gone elsewhere or stayed with Atletico.
In reality football doesn't work this way. Two parties come to an agreement on how the partnership will work.
The agreements are set up on the best case scenarios. However, If one of the sides is providing sub-standard results (for whatever reason) then an alternative will be used to get those results.
You can see these two variations (from each on of the spectrum) on show with Phillips and Isak at the moment.

Odds simply show where the money is going

City get linked to a player... People then bet that the transfer will happen because they've just read about... The odds shorten

Indicative of fuck all
Well it obviously indicates a decent sum of money has been placed in the last 24 hrs With the bookies. Hence the odds have been shortened to the point it’s not worth it for small time pundits

Not forgetting Slabhead and Fred.

But did they really choose them over us or did we refuse to bulk at their demands

Fools and their money are easily parted.

It's hardly some super agent lumping a massive amount on Paddy Power of all places. It's every group of lads down the pub up and down the country that reckon they know everything about football.

Simple as that.

Let’s be honest. I fucking hate the rags, and will til the day I die. But we can’t lie and say they’re nobody. Let’s be realistic.
I’m not saying we aren’t more of an appeal than them, but they’re not nobody are they?!?

It's remarkable how few people seem to acknowledge / understand this.
Most gamblers will walk away from a price that low. Infact, as of yesterday the price on the rags was more attractive than the odds on City. So the bookies have either got wind of his next move. Or the odds on either side are too short to be an attractive offer. And Skybet currently have kolo muani at odds of 1/7 to Juventus. So I’d say odds on either side were lower
