Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

I don't know what world you're living in where you think superstar players don't seek reassurances about their standing in a suitor club's squad hierarchy before they join but it isn't this one.
i live in the real world, funnily enough.

i'd be very interested to read/see any evidence whatsoever of your claim about aguero.

He's actually notorious for being a terrible at collecting crosses. He's a flapper.

If Donnarumma goes to United then he's clearly after a massive payday. He will improve them, no doubt about it but he's not going to turn them into title contenders.

I think everyone is a little but surprised that he seems to be available, and I suspect the board are as well. He's a genuinely world class keeper and for the fee, we have to be looking at him. My personal view is that Ederson is past his best - great with his feet but he rarely 'wins' the game with saves and he's not improving in that area. Donnarumma wins games, Courtois wins games - these guys will win points for incredible saves. Every keeper going now plays with his feet, it's not a rarity anymore and obviously some are better than others.

I feel a bit sorry for Trafford as he probably looks at Ederson and thinks he can be our No 1. I suspect he will be confident enough in competing with him and toppling him. However, Donnarumma is a different beast.

If we can bring him in, he will massively improve our defence. He's huge and pulls off saves Ederson can only dream of. Sure he's not as good as Ederson with his feet but ultimately a keeper should win games with saves and this lad will do that.
I see your argument but he would require such a change to the way that we play I would be shocked if Pep wanted him. This coming season could turn out to be one of massive transition for us.

I'm not so sure it would require a huge change in play, he's ok with his feet - it's not like he cannot pass it at all. Sure, he's not Ederson but most keepers aren't. He's competent and our defenders know how to move into space to take the pass, so hopefully that should help too.

In some ways, I think a change in the way we play would be good. I do think if we can bring a bit more directness - borrow Klopp's ideas - and blend them in with Pep's then we will be impossible to beat, especially with a world class keeper in net! :)

It's definitely an interesting question though and, like I said, I think the club are as surprised he's available as we are.

I dont think anyone is arguing that Donarumma is not an exceptional keeper...certainly not me....he is one of the best shot stoppers (if not the best) out there.

What I think some people have questions about is how this affects the back 4 especially at a point when our back 4 hasnt looked as strong as it has in previous seasons. (Walker gone and no right fullback that is any good Akanji decline, Stones absent a lot of the time, Ake absent a lot and potentially one young and while talented, very raw defender in Khusonov) - this coupled with the knowledge that Pep rarely wholesale changes the way he approaches the game. A huge part of his success over the last near decade has been his build up play from the back involving the keeper. (remember we got rid a of a decent shot stopper in Hart for a keeper who can play with his feet).

Some people believe that this playing out from the back has been sussed....it hasnt - teams have stopped pressing us (but this isnt being sussed out - its giving up on their part) because they cant as Ederson is too good. If we suddenly have a keeper who is known to be weak with his feet then teams will start to press again (we see it in cup games over the years when we have played the reserve keeper) - our build up goes to shit a little. Now couple that with the defensive issues we already have and the uncertainty around that back 4 -this rightfully brings into peoples minds questions of why we are bothering with this. Add in the Trafford factor and that just fuels it more. Add tot his the question of will a manager like Pep who is so rooted in certain factors of his play, going to make wholesale changes a week before the season? Ive seen people say Donarumma could be taught..yes possibly but not quickly and as others point out, nowhere near the level of Ederson (who is just a freak of nature in this aspect) - at least Trafford will have been brought up with our way of playing out fromthe back considering he came through our youth set up so even though he isnt as good as Ederson we already know he at least knows how to do it

Now there are a number of possible answers

1, Donarumma has suddenly become available (unexpectedly) - he is a world class keeper and top teams dont turn down the opportunity to buy world class players (especially at the prices being mentioned) so of course the club move for him.

2. Ederson has made it clear he wants to leave (now we dont know this for sure BUT the questions around this have been out there for quite a while -no smoke without fire etc along with what fans can see with their own eyes in the drop off (a little) in his attitude...this coupled with point 1 just adds reason.

3. We are being used by agents/media (Romano) to gain clickbait and interest from other clubs - the rumours around Ederson all window have just helped this and cockroaches like Romano are just using it to earn money and create a possible more interesting story (Donarumma chooses utd over city etc) - this is a well worn play book of the media creating division/antagonism between clubs and fans to drive their own agendas, create clicks on websites etc etc etc.

4. All 3 could be true at the same time.

Guess we will just have to wait and see....my feeling is we are being used as bait for utd....but could be very wrong..
Youre a deep thinker, I can tell

I understand the concern with Donnarumma's ability with the ball but as a shot stopper he's undoubtedly brilliant.

In my opinion I want my goalkeeper to make big, big saves. Ederson hasn't really done that over the last couple of years.

I feel sorry for Trafford if it happens but it is life at a big club. If Pep wants them both then it's his problem to deal with.

Not just big saves, big big saves. Top top player. He saved that, he really did Fletch.

Telegraph (Jason Burt) back page says City hold talks over signing Donnarumma. It was on SSN Back Pages tonight and you can see the headline on BBC Gossip pages. I haven't read it but I am not expecting there to be anything in it. Fabrizio Romano has also interviewed Donnarumma's agent and the interview (in Italian is on Youtube). It's largely about the fallout with PSG. I searched for City in the transcript and the agent claims City are the club that is most interested.

I think we have established that the deal for Donnarumma is not as advanced as the media were suggesting yesterday and will only happen if Ederson leaves.
