Gillingham v Manchester City 1999

Been lucky enough to have an advance read of this and its brilliant. The way that each player offers their take on the day itself just builds up the magnitude of the occasion even further.

But there is so much more too as each chapter then focuses on the player's subsequent careers and lives to the present day.
That was the most interesting aspect for me - how a group of men forever bound together by a momentous day all went of in different directions, some experiencing hardship, others excelling.

I guess that's the same for any group of individuals, whether they be mates down the pub, sporting team-mates, or family, but it was fascinating all the same.

I love these type of books anyway - where the same subject matter is commented upon by all those involved - and this one is an absolute cracker.

The similarities to the Gillingham game and the QPR one are quite spooky. Both huge days when we didn't really perform and almost blew what on paper looked easy tasks.

After that game i never thought i would go through anything like that again, then came QPR!
We could be having another Gillingham/Qpr scenario in a couple of weeks..

I hope we are in the running come the last game but please God no more nailbiters!!3-0 up after 20 minutes will do nicely.

I must get this. I remember thinking Scunthorpe next year when Gillingham's second goal went in.

I remember thinking.''Oh shit you useless fucking wankers you have let us down again!!!!'' Accompanied by a horrible sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Wonderful - been looking forward to this one coming out.

Will you be putting it up as an e-book too?

yeah..and then turned to watch the early leavers ha

Just ordered it!

I will never forget that game as long as I am alive.
Far more emotional and far more important than the QPR game - as that one was about glory.
This one was about the very survival of our club.

I hung around outside Wembley afterwards it was all over and stumbled onto the City coach parked up.
It was empty except for one person. Kevin Horlock. He was sat there on his own on the coach. Absolutely
no one else. I gave him the thumbs and and he did the same. Eventually the players started to come out and
get on the coach along with Joe Royle. I had a good chat with Joe and I thanked him for giving us our pride back.
He replied 'we'll get our pride back when we get promoted again next season'. We shook hands and he climbed aboard
the coach. What a season, What a day. What a game.
