That's exactly what I'm proposing.

Completely agree pal!:)

Or alternatively, put the away fans in blocks 212,211,111, and 110 and relocate the home fans displaced into the seats vacated in the south stand, thus the whole of the South stand is then one large singing section behind the goal creating an amazing atmosphere and still next to the away fans.

My comments for your brochure:

The City of Manchester stadium is in desperate need of an "end" for the more vocal supporters. I cannot think of a single successful European club who does not already have this. I am convinced it would be worth extra points for the team and would imporve the players' enjoyment at home games.

The current problem is that there are two distinct areas in the stadium where singing originates from. These are seperated by the away supporters and largely operate independantly. At points in a match where supporters want to urge the team on, two songs often start independantly. To the rest of the stadium this just sounds like muddy noise, so it rare for the rest of the stadum to join in.

Real atmosphere is actually produced when the whole ground sings as one. This rarely happen at COMS for the reasons outlined above. One combined "end" will make a huge improvement to the overall atmosphere and will improve the matchday experience for all. To young supporters, it is this atmosphere which excites them and attracts them to attend the match so, I believe, future attendances will improve.

A few points.

1) There is no way that the away fans will be put in the Colin Bell or East as this will either mean Away fans above City fans or vice versa. Now this is apparent at other grounds but is more mither than it is worth.
2) People will want to be as close to the away fans as possible no matter where they are as this is where the best stmosphere usually is and where the best banter is. If they were in the North Stand from the begiining then the North stand would be louder.
3) The best atmosphere at city has always been next to the away fans - the Kippax when it was standing with away fans in the kippax and or the platt lane and then the North Stand when they were in there. Its the way it is. At Maine road where was the second best atmosphere when it was all seating? The kippax left hand side as you looked at it.
4) Relocating them to another stand will be a nightmare for the club in rearranging everyones seats. If they were to move along the south stand then the current problem will remain. People seem to think that the two best singing areas are split by the away fans. No they are the two best singing sections as they are next to the away fans.
5) I doubt that seeing the opposition celebrate on the telly means much to anyone and the same having fans behind the keeper.

Kippax style wouldn't work

Stick them up in the gods? Newcastle do that... and I dont know how many of you have actually been to Newcastle away, but where is the Geordies most vocal support? Up there with them next to the away fans. And thus, the atmosphere pitch side and on tv sounds even worse due to the sound being so high up.

SS and South Stand work as it is... because like it or not, atmosphere comes from being near the away fans... ever sang a song in there? half the time the songs start and people face the away fans to sing it, nothing wrong with that, thats what makes football great and its been around for decades

Moving to the North Stand wouldnt work... remember that cup game years back when 50/100 fans relocated to the North Stand to stand and sing all game? What was the result? No-one joined in apart from that original 100 in there.

Some clubs have a culture of big home ends, which was never City's... our atmosphere has always come from the fans closest to the away fans, and thats the same story at most other grounds in England. (the Kop atmosphere is a myth, they're crap, never sing, and the home/away fans cannot hear each other)

If the away fans were moved, you'd just get fans relocating to each side of them and the same issues that plagued the first few seasons at COMS (poor atmosphere etc) that is being resolved now as we've had a few years at COMS, fans now know which are the unofficial standing/singing areas... to change all that would just set back the natural progression that has happened since we moved to COMS - and lets put it this way, if they were moved to another part of the ground, 3rd tier for example, I and probably most of 111, 116 and 117 would move up there with them.

As for the TV/Goalkeeper issue... I'm not bothered by the cameras showing the away fans... you know why? Because I'm generally at the game in my seat. And Goalkeepers shouldn't get intimidated by away fans, they're used to it and I doubt it bothers them. Look at our home record last season, it was generally good.

Keep it as it is. The fact you cant get a season ticket in the South Stand these days, and the queues of people wishing to relocate to there is proving that the system as it currently is works.

To add to the debate:

I don't care about the telly, of what relevance is that?

But I believe the ones who say keepit as it is are the ones who sit in the current signing areas.

You don't realise that 300 lads singing one song and one section, whilst 400 lads sing another in another section means the rest of the ground don't join in.

Don't agree with that

Where the away fans is is irrelevant. Look at the Nordkurve at Schalke, we were at the other end and that was an awesome sight.

Nah not having that, the rest of the ground isn't quiet because they're sat there scratching their heads wondering 'should I join in with the south stand or the corner, its such a tough choice?' They don't sing because they're not inspired by what is going on on the pitch or they're simply not up for it, playing musical chairs ain't going to change that, improving the product on the pitch probably will.

I strongly support the request for a 'Kippax' style section of the ground.

I am a 40 + years fan - went to Maine Road in the Kippax for many years and make the following observations

1/ It is mentioned that some members of CITY management witnessed the impact that can be made during the Celtic game - that is a decent example.

2/ Also - take into account the support given to the team at the Blackburn game with the whole Darwen end being given to CITY - Stevie Ireland commented after the game that this really helped put energy into tired legs - this is true I have witnessed the truth on many occasions in the 'old Kippax stand' of the fans effectively being the 12th man - it really does work

3/ Consider why this was far less effective in the 'new Kippax stand' - that was because the way it was 'tiered' effectively made it multiple stands and often the noise generated was disparate and far less motivating - this would not be the issue at Eastlands

4/ We are very 'brand concious' - we want to be seen as ".. this is our CITY..." etc - the image of the Darwen end on television was the best demonstration of the CITY support I have seen for years - just a sea of blue - that would have been noticed by every viewer

5/ The sense of loyalty that is so inbred in CITY fans I think comes from the old Kippax atmosphere - and this rekindled will help secure further generations of CITY fans

The players can do a lot to support the 'fans experience' by their performances on the pitch - but that 'sense of togetherness' from being 'in the kippax' can only be generated by fans being together

6/ I am a Seasoncard holder in the Colin Bell stand but would wish to transfer to which ever part of the ground would be designated for this purpose

Well good for you, you're on of only 40000 a week, compared to the literally millions that watch on tv. Thanks to Sky, it's got to look good on the box as well. And it doesn't at the moment.
