Was that the bath and west showground - got tickets there this year is it any good?

Kanye West and Jay Z have had years and years of mainstream success so despite them not being everyone's cup of tea, they justified that spot and I think surprised many people.

The reality is Stormzy has had 4 commercially successful (ie popular) singles and featured on a Little Mix song. I just don't see how he stands a chance of entertaining 50k+ people for 2 hours, when its only going to be a minority that have heard any of his other stuff. Its just come way too soon for him.

Some of the backlash is definitely snobbery of that genre of music, and you can stretch a racial justification for that I suppose, but in my opinion he hasn't had the success or the back catalogue to deserve it (at this point in his career).

If they wanted something different to a "white man with a guitar" act as you put it, then Drake or Kendrick would have been more deserving, and would have the back catalogue too.

I agree with all of this, except for the part about Drake or Kendrick.

You have the "traditionalists" (many on this thread) who see any urban music as an NWA parody regardless of how it sounds, who it is by and what they are saying. They will never accept a black man without a guitar headlining a festival they have never been to so engaging with them is pointless.

The fact is Hip Hop and all it sub genres is massive and worthy of headlining any non genre specific festival, in terms of Stormzy, I read that they wanted a UK grime / hip hop act to headline, so if that was the case then Dizzee would have been perfect, has the crowd control, experience and most importantly back catalogue to justify a headline slot. Stormzy just doesnt have that yet as he is too green. Even a Tiny Tempah or a Wiley would have been better choices, or do a Boy Better Know combination set.

I think rap in all its variations is fucking tripe but that’s just my personal opinion. What does irk me is “white boys” in their souped up cars playing this shite “music” with the windows wound down blasting it out for all to hear when in reality the rest of us don’t want to hear that shit. Bet you’re one of them!!

Yeah white boys listening to black music, we should all stick to our own races for music shouldn't we. Fucking nonsense.

My point was, why do mostly young white boys wind the windows down in their cars to blast the rap music out? It’s almost “look at me, I’m down with the gangsta’s” even though in reality most of them are weedy fuckers who probably work in Call Centre’s. I was quoting a tiny demographic of rap fans not the majority. I never said white people shouldnt listen to black music, that’s racism in the extreme and something I have no truck with. My choice of music is eclectic and the ethnicity of the artist is completely irrelevant. Saying that it’s my opinion that most rap music is absolute tripe, I stand by that but it would be terrible if we all liked the same music. As in life it’s personal choice and I acknowledge rappers are talented in their field, just like classical musicians, punk rockers, opera singers, soul artists, Jazz bands, boy bands, etc, etc.

Well I somehow managed to get a ticket in the resale, 20 mintues after the sold out sign went up. Got to get a coach from Lincoln though.

Line up is out and it is not the best. Festival line ups seem a bit shit in General though this year.

Will have a ball none the less.

i never answered this....yes we were in Bath and West last time (2017)....despite having to get the wee shuttle bus, i really liked it....shower block, proper toilets and pretty quiet (must be getting old)
