Glastonbury 2023

I'm not really a fan even though 'your song' was our wedding song.

But he was brilliant, clearly suffering to move freely and still put on a good show ( apart from his guests ).

Woke up this morning and still have his songs going around in my head lol

Did anyone else watch the set by Third World on iplayer?
Contained an unexpected ‘gear change’ just after the 45 minute mark that you just don’t see coming.
It was quite brilliant too & well worth a look before it disappears from the hidden gems page on iplayer.
Pure class.
But I did laugh at some of the crowd’s WTF faces!

Elton John was a let down in the same way City only winning 3 trophies this season was.... He smashed it out of the park.
Agreed. Everyone knows what a strong back catalogue he has, but he surprised me re how strong his voice still is. Compare him to Debbie Harry (okay, she's a few years older than him, but from a similar era). The performance of the festival, imo.

Can someone tell me if that was Eltons original line up...or most of it.It looked like it from where I was standing ( by the kitchen door )
The band contained three long term members who have been with him since the early 1970s - Nigel Olsen (drums), Davey Johnstone (guitar) and Ray Cooper (percussion) with the only exception being the late Dee Murray (bass) who was obviously missing last night.

Everyone saying Elton was the performance of the festival need to watch queens of the stone age on iplayer

Eltons voice has just not got it anymore - he sounds like Vic reeves pub singer at times with his backing singers covering up the fact he can't sing any high notes anymore

Don't get me wrong he is a brilliant song writer of some of the classics and his piano playing is superb

But in the same way axel rose has lost his voice, so has Elton

His special guests were awful - you'd think he'd get a more stellar line up for his last UK gig

But each to their own - it was an OK festival this year - Arctic monkeys being the worst headline for many years

I watched a few acts over the weekend. I thought Arctic Monkeys were very good and I look forward to exploring one or two of their albums I haven't listened to. Elton was great. As was Cat Stevens I have tried to find LDR truncated set on i-player but other than a couple of tracks she is nowhere to be seen which is strange.

The way the BBC construct this, constantly change channels and other than Jo Whiley the teen presenters are a huge inane pain in the arse with absolutely zero empathy for any music other than teen. No search facility for what you want to see on i-player and stuff randomly partitioned under such informative headings as 'guitars' 'golden moments' and the like. Don't get me started on their resistance to playing acts live. Cat Stevens yesterday played on BBC1 two hours after he had finished his set and a bugger to find live on iplayer (you would have thought the button 'Cat Stevens live' might have been a clue but no). How difficult would it be to play the main acts live on BBC1 or 2 and have a i-player feed from each of the stages to show their live acts. Right. Thats them sorted. Breakfast next.

This isn't me having a gomin any way

I'm generally interested in what about the Arctic monkeys you thought was very good? I know we all have different music taste - I just can't work out what they did that was good?

Life as Yusuf Islam (1978–present)[edit]

Muslim faith and musical career[edit]

Yusuf Islam appearing at the Islam Expo in London (2008)
Following his conversion to Islam, Cat Stevens (now named Yusuf Islam), abandoned his musical career for nearly two decades. When he became a Muslim in 1977, the Imam at his mosque told him that it was fine to continue as a musician, as long as the songs were morally acceptable, but others were saying that "it was all prohibited", and he decided to avoid the question by ceasing to perform.[87] He has said that there was "a combination of reasons, really", and that the continuing demands of the music business had been "becoming a chore, and not an inspiration anymore".[87]

I mean it is just wiki but
So why has he been gigging for decades again? There are Muslims in Asian Dub Foundation or numerous rappers etc.

You’ve contradicted yourself too.
