Glastonbury 2023

I'm going to give Queens Of The Stone Age a watch if it's on iPlayer

their music has never grabbed me even though a lot of my mates swear by them but I'm gonna give them another try
This is one group that I don't get, they just do absolutely nothing for me. I couldn't name any songs they do, just one of them bands I swerve.

Did anyone else watch the set by Third World on iplayer?
Contained an unexpected ‘gear change’ just after the 45 minute mark that you just don’t see coming.
It was quite brilliant too & well worth a look before it disappears from the hidden gems page on iplayer.

Thanks for pointing out their set, great stuff. As for the 'gear change' it was the brandishing of the handkerchief that did it for me! As you say brilliant stuff.

This isn't me having a gomin any way

I'm generally interested in what about the Arctic monkeys you thought was very good? I know we all have different music taste - I just can't work out what they did that was good?
I really like the AM early albums, particularly their first. Turner to me is a superb lyricist. Most of what they played I didn't know but on first and second listen I liked it - they do dynamics and song build very well and I like Turners voice a lot. Its no longer the floor fillers of the early days but I like their transition that seems to have taken place in their last couple of albums. So to answer your question, I liked the songs and thought they were pretty much on top of their game re performance. I was surprised at the reaction from some as I thought it a very good set but it seems to have divided folk. What didn't you like?

And that's why music divides us

I can't stand his monotone voice and the general feeling he gives of superiority.

Also the build up of songs - I just don't hear that - about half the set we're dreary slow compositions

I loved the first album but then they tried to go all Blur and Radiohead and don't have the musicians to pull it off

They keep trying to reinvent their style and I don't think the guitarist and drummer have the musicianship to go through different styles - he could be a great front man but just has styled himself into a bit of a prick if I'm honest

Not my cup of tea

Agreed. Everyone knows what a strong back catalogue he has, but he surprised me re how strong his voice still is. Compare him to Debbie Harry (okay, she's a few years older than him, but from a similar era). The performance of the festival, imo.
He started in the 60's way before Miss Harry. He was in Long John Baldry's backing band.
