Glastonbury 2023

You mean 'at the top of their game" like Arctic Monkeys and GnR...?

I've seen better tribute acts in our local pub.
I can't speak for Guns N' Roses but Alex Turner had acute laryngitis in the week leading up to Arctic Monkeys performance and there was talk that they might have to call it off as a result. They already cancelled one gig in Dublin a few days before. Instead they did perform but he was clearly struggling and had to slow some of the songs down. He gets a free pass for me because there were mitigating circumstances. I saw them just over 3 weeks ago at LCCC - the night before the FA Cup Final - and they fucking smashed it.

Just watched back some of the stuff on i player, watching the more rocky stuff which is my 'thing',(and not normally a 'Glasto' thing in past years )
Foo Fighters are always put on a quality show and Dave Grohl is probably the ultimate front man and a such decent dude to throw in to the mix. Royal Blood are a top live band, (very good at the MEN last year) like that Radio 1 thing, Glastonbury isn't really their' target audience', but at least they didn't upset any 13 year old girls this time!
Got to say I was a bit dubious about Guns N' Roses. Fantastic at Donington in 88 .They really were something special that day, the energy, the attitude (though obviously that day will sadly be remembered for the 2 people who died).
Thought they did okay, maybe not to everyone's taste admittedly and Axl has pissed a lot of people off over the years. Even though his voice seemed a bit 'strained' at times, some of those tunes still sound fucking brilliant all these years on, and Slash has certainly still got it!
Best 'surprise act' for me was Nova Twins. Although I've heard of them, don't know too much about them. To me live they sounded a little like a bit of a mash up of RATM, The Prodigy and Skunk Anansie with a bit of rap thrown into the mix. Have to check out more of them as there is so little Rock music (or any music really for that matter) that really grabs my attention these days.

Clearly the prime candidate for the afternoon Legends slot is the Welsh Elvis, Shaky.
Yes, he's in his 70s, but last year he appeared in a TV comedy as a tribute act to himself.

They've been on the verge of properly breaking through for a while now, I hope they do. I quite like their slightly chaotic hard to pin down style. Doing their own thing rather than being an identikit which is always good to see. Their second album had some good stuff on it but I think they've probably got something even better inside them.

Seen a couple of songs.....
It isn't bad for what it was..... but may as well have booked a tribute band to play..... just seems wrong for an artist and a band to play an entire set of cover songs from just one band....
If it gets "the kids" to check out the back catalogue of The Smiths then so be it.....
But it just wasn't for me .....
Same here, too Karaoke for me. Seeing a successful band relegated to backing musicians for a solo artist seemed odd as well.

Elton fucking John is all I've seen and heard about today. Even on the One Show some actress I'd never heard of plugging her latest series had some kind of Elton t shirt on.
Having been to two Glastonbury's in the 80's (before it was gentrified and called "Glasto" by wankers) I'm very glad I went when I did. Fucking Elton John and "Macca" and all the other dinosaurs headlining the past few years would have got pelted off the stage back then. And rightly so.
Cat Steven's is totally exempt from criticism as he isn't in the same wanker league as Elton and "Macca" - the Knights of the Realm twats.
.... and Lauren Laverne calling it "Glaston-Berry", that's worse than "Glasto".

After reading all the rave reviews about Rick I was a little disappointed. I guess if he’d done this 30 years ago it would’ve sounded better. Blossoms music was spot on.

Everyone is trying to be edgy, inventing a new slogan.
