Its all bollocks, the earth warms and cools in cycles, now all of a sudden, government scientists (which i expect are paid to say this) think the earth is warming up.

It's not just government scientists. Universities and Independent scientists have been warning of this since the 1970s. In fact government acceptance of global warming is actually quite new, before it was the scientists warning people and the government dismissing them because part of the measures to reduce global warming have an affect on industry.

I've been reading up on this on the web:

Apparently unusually hot summers prove there is global warming.
And unusually cold winters also prove global warming.
Hot weather is the same as the climate and demonstrates it's changing.
Cold weather should not be confused with the climate as it's a different thing altogether.
War is peace.
Truth is lies.
All hail the ruling elite; may they never lack new excuses to tax us.

Global warming was a poor term to choose to describe the problem. Mostly because of the misconception that everywhere will always be warmer. Climate Change is a far better term, because the weather will further move to the extremes. A better indicator is are we getting freak weather which is out-of-norm for the environment? This weather snap is not proof because it's an single incident (a similar cold snap hit in the 60s). However if we continue to see bizarre weather then it's logical to conclude the weather is in fact changing dramatically. Incidentally in an extreme case of 'Global Warming' the UK will actually be very cold as opposed to very hot.

Says who? If you look at the science and what scientists have been saying it's been consistent. It's the tabloids who have a terrible record of reporting science who either make it up or are too dumb to report the science accurately. Look at science reporting in this country; MMR, 'Bacon gives you cancer', 'We're just about to cure cancer' etc etc. This are all rubbish.

newsflash, acid rain was bollocks, ozone depletion is bollocks, Aids didn't wipe out the planet as predicted neither did ebola virus or swine flu . It's all bollocks. The Greens, the liberals and the experts can chuck facts , figures and more bollocks at me all day long because it's just a load of bollocks and just a huge conspiracy by the manufacturers of plastic wheely bins to shift more blue, green and every other frickin colour refuse recepticle then can think of.!

Actually AIDS was a serious worry for good reason. A disease which spreads via the method we use to continue the race. Remember at the time no-one really knew what was happening and how to stop it. Since then the message of safe sex and the advancements of 'treatment' of HIV have improved drastically. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. It is however down to science that the problem of HIV is not as bad as first thought. However Africa is a prime example of the problems it could have caused in the west if we did not have those things.

Anybody who thinks man made global warming is real is a gullible fool.

Or they believe the science. You can find economic motive for anything. People will make money from anything. At the moment a lot of people earn a lot of money by trying to seed doubt about global warming. Oil companies for one. So, yes, be wary of people who stand to make money from it but boths could and yet only one side is provided scientific evidence (as opposed to newspaper columns)

Things in science are not either 100% false or 100% true and until you reach the latter therefore not valid. Your using the same argument as people who say evolution is only a THEORY. Gravity can also be called 'The THEORY of gravity. Doesn't mean it's not true.

As it stands there is a lot of evidence for man-made global warming. Simplest of all, we are greatly increasing CO2 emissions which has been proving to warm up the atmosphere.

Finally, since someone will mention this as it's a popular tabloid truism: "But the earth naturally goes though cycles of warming. This has happened before! ".

Yes, Yes it did. However consider we have the natural CO2 emissions, then we added A MASSIVE HEAP MORE on top of it far more than previous warming periods. Then consider we have also had massive waves of deforestation in the rain forest and others. We have increased the load and reduced the coping system. Not good.

As I often say, almost half of humanity is of below average intelligence. This thread proves this theory as an absolute fact.

JTU, you are obviously beyond my modest assistance. Good luck to you, my friend. BTW please research the money involved in the fossil fuel industry before deciding that a few software developers are about to invade a wind-rich country [LMFAO]. As for Al Gore, he is a charlatan who will not go against his meat industry buddies who are doing as much damage as the oil companies, the latter being more of a Bush family thing.

What I don't understand is how some of you are apparently denying that man has any impact on the environment. Try standing on a high vantage point overlooking our glorious city, admire the smog halo and work it out for yourself. BTW thank you all for voting to keep congesting my city and polluting my children's lungs, whilst I pay for the roads you drive on.

Anyway, reading threads like this does make me question whether evolution can ever truly weed out the stupid. Obviously not.

to be honest i think alot of people are divided on this issue but if you can be bothered to do some research there is more information that global warming is a mith than fact. it has been scientifically proven that there has been no global warming for 15 years and infact there has been global cooling for the last 9 years this was proved by nasas thermal scanning of the globe. an interesting person to look up is lord monckton who seems to be quite an expert on this. but like i said people will be divided on the issue and for them to decide what they believe.

I have a question regarding global warming.

So, the allegation is that melting polar ice caps are going to create mass flooding etc.

Somebody answer me this:

So you have a glass of water, you put an ice cube in, the water level rises due to the weight of the ice cube.

Apply the same theory to the oceans of this world, where all this ice has been dumped into. The weight of the ice will have risen sea level. Assuming that melts, doesnt the extra volume of water just get balanced off with the reduction in sea level due to the loss of the weight of ice?

If your ice cube in your glass of water melts, it doesnt make the water spill out of the glass, you end up with pretty much the same level of water, yet more volume of water since the ice melted.

So applying that theory, how will we be flooded?
