GMP confirm that Manchester is Blue (2011 parades)

Below is a Fbook thread started by an old friend and comrade who is a Blackburn fan.
JH, a rag waded in spouting some bollocks about rags within 20 miles of The swamp, I (CW) countered with some personal facts. I particularly enjoyed the "billions" response.

United win the Premier League. They'll be dancing on the streets of Essex, Berkshire, London & of course Plymouth !

JH Don't forget Manchester. More united fans live within a 20 radius of old Trafford than any fans within 20 mile radius of any other club.

CW I live exactly 10 miles from Manchester City and approx 13 miles from Manchester United. My neighbour on the left is a city fan, on the right is a united fan, the neighbour on the opposite left is a red, his next door neighbour is a blue, the div at the end is a red. To my knowledge no one else seems interested in football. All the blues are season card holders who attend all the home matches. The red next door never goes, but spends a load of money on city merchandise for his grandson. The red over the road rarely ever goes but does a lot for grass roots football and is a top bloke. The red div at the end had a drunken tantrum directly outside my house that I missed due to being at the game where Ageuro won the title. Of the 16 or so lads I work with 6 are blues and 5 are reds, 4 of the blues are season card holders, only one of the reds is an occasional match goer. And that my lad is a true and accurate demographic of Greater MANCHESTER. It may be about 50/50 on paper but all the passion loyalty and commitment is in Sky blue. I know this because I live and work in Manchester and have done for the best part of two decades. Whereas as jim, god bless him is from ..........Yorkshire?

CW Apologies for that jim, just clocked its Wigan, where there are some Wigan fans and everyone else is united or Liverpool, maybe the odd Everton. Not many City because its nowhere near Manchester. It's like saying Chester is near Manchester.

JH Wigan is 18 mile from Manchester. Unfortunately, your argument also fails based on age. When I was growing up, Wigan Athletic played at Robin Park and were 2 divisions lower than the Conference North. Wigan always as, and always will be, a rugby league town. Think you will find Blackburn is further away than 18 mile from Manchester. Apologies but I like to deal with fact not bullshit, which seems to be the main cut of your jib. Just searching out my life contract that says I have to justify my personal life to random people who believe the can pontificate over others.........sore can see that lime anywhere.

JHI am pretty sure Wigan is closer to Manchester than C------y, albeit by just over a mile, closer all the same. I see that C now lives in the Shetlands, so probably gets to few games if any. Understandable as he lives in ..........Twatt. Despite living 160 mies from OT, still even there frequently this season. End of justifying myself to some random jealous city fan.

CW, Yep I really do live in the town of Twatt! Never takes long for a red to flip. Jealous of just another singalong armchair my arse! On a clear day you can see the Etihad from C-------y, its 14 miles of smiles. Matchgoing Manchester is blue. Toodlepip!

CW Oh and it was Springfield Park wasn't it? ;0)

JH It was Springfield park, you are correct. Only thing you have got correct though. As for singalong armchair. I guess you hot tail it down every week from Twatt hey. Anyway, the beauty of this is I don't have to justify myself to anyone, let alone you. I am off to fluff up my arm chair and look at that league table. What would complete my season would be for Wigan to lift the cup, Oh I do hope so. Toodle pip !!! .........my how the blue half role! Don't bother responding, I am bored now and it only means you can't read if you do.
Yesterday at 5:38pm via mobile · Unlike · 1

CW I can read but I want to respond because I'm not bored yet. A couple of things, the Twatt thing is a joke, I've got a Manchester postcode as stated earlier , I'm 10 miles from the stadium. Wigan lifting the cup, you're more of a glory hunter than I ever imagined then....Jimmy two teams. Listen you made a comment off the top of your head that you probably picked up from red issue, I replied with a few facts, no need to get shirty. Right I'm bored now. Cheerio!

I can concour.

Work in Trafford Park. As you'd expect there are more United fans than CIty fans.

As far as I'm aware there's only one United season ticket holder. A handful go every now and again if they can get a ticket. As in if they can be arsed to buy one. The rest never go, even when the prices are cheap and tickets are available.(cup games) Yet they are the usual suspects that always give it the big one if United win or City lose.

There are 5 City fans that are season ticket holders, including me. Some others go as and when, just like the handful of United fans.

I'll leave it at that.

In general United fans probably are more casual supporters. United are possibly the easiest team to support in world football. In 20 premier league years they've won 13. If you don't like football that much it's easy to support United because they always win. It's just how it is.

I like the cut of that Redissues jib.

Without doubt he is the most intelligent rag i have ever come across and probably has an IQ approaching the high 70s.

We should definitly keep him as currently El Presidente has a job vacancy for a court jester and as hard as the cellar whacko nutjobs try Redissue is different class. Although Johnsonontheleft runs hims close, very close in fact.

Manchester is Blue! and greater Manchester come to that. Will admit Bury is a Rag hole.

Care to elaborate on this Jon?

The North Bury supporters branch has some of the best turnout numbers for meetings out of every MCFC SC.

Not to forget Prestwich & Whitefield branch...

Have a mooch down to the Metrolink Bury stop on matchday, you'll see what colour Bury is...

The amount of people I know who are Mancs but have moved into Bury is loads, I think I know morrow than people who were actually born in Bury.

These rags who don't go are followers NOT supporters, our conceited mouthy 'pals' ramble on about the red 3/4s, 'Manchester is red' etc etc but these 'fans' who don't attend and in many instances have never set foot inside OT shouldn't even be part of the equation, so to count them is laughable, following them is the easiest thing in the world and seems to be the domain in the Manchester area of those who like to belong and fit in. We hear their supporters from all over the British Isles being mocked but at least they GO, they attend and watch them in the flesh, it is the gobshites in the Manchester pubs watching religiously who are the weak link as far as their followers go.

Agreed!

I was born in moston, moved to prestwich as a kid and couple of years ago moved to bury!

Though whilst in prestwich I went to high school in bury and the split was prob 40-40 red/blue 20% bury,
Difference was most of blues went to matches with their dads, as did the shakers fans, but I only knew one rag there who had been to a game!

Even now in bury I see more blue shirts than red, and I was on north bury blues coach to wembley and it was a decent turn out, even the heywood branch which is 2 miles from bury took 120 people!

United have areas with more followers (never call em fans) than in some others but rarely if ever dominate a local area with match going fans!!

although we all know Manchester is blue, why has it took the GMP 2 years to uncover this ground breaking development?

Do we arm him boss? Or just give him some balls to juggle with.
