GMP Photos from the derby - 21 Feb 1981

These are absolutely brilliant!! I started going in around 83' , this brings back really good memories you can almost smell the hot dogs and fags!! It makes me feel sad at the lost atmosphere of those days and I feel sorry for the younger lads or should I say lads and women!!, Who never experienced standing up!!!On that subject there isn't many women there is there? It seems to be lads mostly aged 14-30. You can see the fashion starting as well kickers and drainpipes and cagoules. When did the big fences go up?? The coppers still stood 3yrds apart when the big fences were up too.. I remember that curb crawling **** Pleat running across the pitch I cried my eyes out that day not really realising what was going on must be coz our kid and my dad was so devastated., I'm sure the big fences were up then?? These pictures have made my night!!! Proper nostalgia WHEN FOOTBALL HAD ATMOSPHERE!!! Thanks for posting them mate!!

I was 26. where have the years gone.

great pics.

Same as you de niro, and if you ever find where the years have gone please let me know.

Thanks to the OP for posting these great photos, suspect they are a bit of a shock to the younger supporters

Fantastic pictures, I was 21 then, things I'd forgotten - the MuEN van selling the Pink after games, back then I couldn't fathom out how they managed to get the results printed so quickly. Went in the away section a time or two and seeing that picture from the back of the stand reminded me how steep and high those iron steps were. As a couple have mentioned, hardly any women, no wonder there was so much mither.

Cheers for posting them OP

I wasn't at that, but did go to quarter final of FA cup in 81. There were about 58,000 then, weren't there?

I was 18, weighed about 7 stone - didn't take up much space in the Kippax! Can't believe how crowded it must have been...

Same as me.

It's amazing how few women are on those pics or maybe not thinking back to what the maychday experience as its called now was like.

Also the almost total absence of replica shirts. One or two in those pics still wearing flares too, very 70s!
Picture 7 far right big fuck off flares on...
That must have been the Manyoo West Yorkshire branch they were always a couple of years behind.
All the City lads in straight legs, kickers or samba and plenty of Adidas cagoules as well...Even the girl in picture 5 with the Princess Di hair cut!!
