Top and bottom pics are the rags section - the normal away section of the Kippax plus the corner next to the Platt Lane.

In the 1st photo is that where the north stand meets the kippax??

And in the 8th photo, the kid with his legs dangling down with doc martins on- they look like the old rag socks to me, not 100% though in black n white .

No, it's where the Kippax meets Platt Lane.

Oh yeah so it is, couldn't quite see that on first look- where the away corner met the platt lane- does everyone remember the really narrow segregation between the kippax and the away section.
You could literally reach over to them but for a line of the " odd lot " trying to keep a bit of order.
And the stands the coppers used to have at the very back, but fair play to them back then, they used to let 3 or 4 kids on to watch the game and it was quite often the same coppers and they got to know you.(it was on the stand i used to get on anyway)
Does everyone remember the picture of the guy with a dart stuck in his head at the derby, im not sure what year it was ??
Good memories.

Someone said earlier in the thread that united had Platt lane but when we scored, everyone went up. Is that City fans getting hold of their tickets or did they only have the kippax corner?

Back then platt lane was citys end (always was) - but loads of rags used to be in there. In fairness it use to be rough as out in the platt lane on derby day.
years later, the old platt lane was given to away fans!

They just had the corner but as usual there were pockets of them around the ground. They had the Platt Lane in 89 but I'm not sure when the first time was.
The first time would have been '85-86 when the Platt Lane was given to away fans for all games that season. The previous season it was for City fans - see the Charlton 5-1. I think we lost that Derby 0-3 fairly early on that season when united went on that insanely good early season run. I remember t he away Derby was later on that season as it was the day before the Fool Members Cup Final.

Yes mate, a black lad with an afro, the dart was just sticking out of the top, think he came from kstand. There is a picture knocking about, I've seen it in the last 12mths, can't remember where though.

As for the coppers letting kids on the stand with them, probably in an attempt to discourage anyone throwing stuff at them, GMP, hiding behind kids since the 70's...
Can also remember when it was just a rope and coppers that separated home and away fans.

Great pics. Top marks to the OP. More please. I think the pic of the rags packed in on the Kippax/Platt Lane corner is a poignant reminder of how it used to be given the Hillsborough Anniversary this weekend. That's how fans were treated then. H&S not heard of. Hillsborough could have happened to any set of fans. By the grace of god,and the fact we had an inept team at the time,it could have been Blues there that day.

On a lighter note. The girl with the Princess Di haircut was defo a rag. Her cagoule wasn't bona fide adidas. Just an imitation market special. No self respecting Blue would have worn that!

The terraces were so packed then that if you were caught short, being able to piss in a sink would have been beyond your wildest dreams.

Remember the lad with a dart in his head but wasn't that at the Swamp around 76? Darts used to be the rags weapon of choice.

Sharpened coins as well at that time, like shurikens, I saw a lad get a nasty cut on his cheek with one of them.

The football going football crowd today don't know anything by comparison.

I've been threaten with a knife twice watching football, once away watching England against Italy in 1980, and once in the first match at Goodison in 1981 in the quarter finals when we drew 2-2 and Paul Power lobbed the goalkeeper.

I'm still here to tell the tale though. I still hate Liverpool though as a City, I absolutely loath the place!!
