GMP Photos from the derby - 21 Feb 1981

As many have said great memories I was not at that game, but used to go as many times as my spends would allow me to.I was 11 at the time.
3rd picture down im sure that is Tommy Caton running out for us, I hope I'm right? What a top player for us and so sad to die so young.

Donkey jackets, proper flared jeans, Doc Martens, Gibsons either ox blood red or brown, scarves tied like ties and around the wrist,Cool cats, taking the piss out of the junior blues in the Platt lane, soggy Wrestlers burgers, piss flowing out of the Kippax bogs, jumping the turnstyles, massive surges in the Kippax. Dodging missiles from the away fans and hoping and preying that Asa Hartford kept the ball in the ground.
Great photos
Happy days

And if you were lucky the "burger" vendors would kick off with each other for the prime patch, better than the game some weeks.

There's a few more crowd pics in the flickr set, but the rest are mostly of the cops themselves.

This is the game, well, the goal

Even though we were crap most of the time they were still great days to be a blue home & away, That clip has reminded me of something I could never understand, although there were tens of thousands of blues going mental on the kippax (including me), the camera man always seemed to find a small section of fans clapping politely as though we had just won a corner?

Tragic picture all round, featuring not only Tommy Caton, but also future Blue Justin Fashanu.

Whilst looking for some old pictures of Manchester, I came across some crowd pictures taken by a GMP cameraman at the derby - won 1-0 Steve MacKenzie the scorer.

A reminder of how they used to pack us in, without the health and safety concerns of today.

I don,t think you have the correct game, the picture of the team coming out could be the September 1981 derby 0.0 draw ,bryan robsons first game.the kit city are wearing was the 1981 to 83 kit.
