Aye, car jacking is a very real risk in Joburg. A mate went to pick his parents up from the airport there late at night. He got carjacked with the guy holding gun through window. Took everything he had including the shirt off his back. He told me he got a taxi and greeted his parents in his shorts.

Same in Rio. I was told there that you just flash your lights when you come to an intersection at night and then go for it.
