Can anybody recommend which clubs a learner would be beat to get. Debating getting into golf but no idea where to start

While not my cup of tea Callaway, Cobra and Taylormade make good clubs for the beginner.

Make sure the irons have wide enough soles and a deep enough cavity to help you get the ball in the air. With woods you will need a large head, low centre of gravity and plenty of loft. Unless yoou hit it a long way make sure the shafts aren't too stiff.

Hard to recommend anything more specific, so I would advise going to your local pro or shop and trying a few out and see which suit your game the best.

Also have a look online for the gold digest hot list and that lets you know the top rated clubs in each category. Not perfect but a decent place to start.

I got a set for about £100 a few yeas back from the pro shop at the club I was a member of. try looking around different places instead of just american golf like a lot of people do. If your just starting out as well don't be obsessed about the make or brand either

go to american golf, tell them your budget and playing level, they will sort you out. you need oversize as a beginner they have a bigger sweet spot and they will do you a deal on bag etc
