Really enjoyed the year, handicap remained pretty much unchanged. Won a mixed foursomes with my Mrs. as the only trophy.Played some lovely courses.

Had a poor season, started on 8.7 , finished on 8.7, 48 competition rounds.

My potential is definitely behind me.

I have started to look at the hole when putting, and it has certainly freed up my hands and arms.

8.7 is better than I've ever been, looking longingly at single figures. Currently 11.9

I started putting looking at the hole about 3 years ago, definitely helps me.

I wouldn’t say that’s a poor season unless you were a very low handicapper previously

I was until 2 years ago, never had been above 5.
Now the yards from the tee are getting less.
In the past I would always manage a few rounds near to level, now a good round is 76/77.
But we all wait for next season.
How old are you ? Bet your short game is still tidy . What are you carrying your driver ? I’m 60 and I was using a Mizuno ST x 220 driver , it was decent but I won some money and went for a fitting and got another 15 to 20 yards with a Ping G440 in stiff ! I’ve never been in stiff but it’s very worked for me

I'm 66.
I have never been long off the tee, but 240 yds has become 220. On long par 4s it's enough isn't it to make the decline inevitable.
My120 yds in , is as good as ever. I do practice alot though.

220 is still very good . I’ve never been long and similar to you . My short game around the greens is good and course management has improved massively. I’ve had a decent season coming down from 13.2 to 8.9 .. All I’m going to work on next season is 100yrds in and putting . With the hope to stay at 8.9 or a shot or 2 lower

I am surprised more people don't try.

I believe the mechanics, posture, grip and most of all alignment need to be good then the visualisation of looking down the line is a real positive.

Had a dismal year, lowest was 3.5, finished on 6.2 my highest for decades. I had the yips! Thankfully it was down to technique and not the mind so hopefully I'll get back to where i want to be next season.
Had a quite bad shoulder injury this time last year, slipped on a slope, which didn't help my game. Planning to start speed training over the winter, I'm not hitting it long enough now.

At 60 this was the first year I noticed a drop in distance though I’ve never been long with my irons (150 yd 7-iron now 145 if I hit it flush). My index has been around 5 for a long time but is near 7 now. Still playing stiff shafts but think I need some lighter, whippier irons. Finally replaced my 3-iron with a 7-wood too.

Trump will give you lessons; he’s won hundreds of tournaments.

145 is still an impressive number, beware of drastically changing your clubs if you've had the same setup for decades.
Correct decision regarding the 3 iron, they're museum pieces now. Personally I carry 3, 4 hybrid then 5 iron.

Try a 9 wood , it’s the future

My bag is now - Driver , 5w, 7w,9w, 6-Gap , 54 , 60. Pretty happy . Just bought some new 2nd hand Mizuno 925 forged irons . Went for a fitting and went from Regular light shafts to Stiff light .. I think the stiffs are Dynamic Gold 105 stiff .. Which in old money will be Firm .

I think I've improved but my handicap hasn't particularly. Amazingly won the seniors open with a pal at our home club this year but the good scores are few and far between

You think that's bad, started at 7.8, finished on 11.8! I badly tore the tendons in my left ankle in April; still not right, so that is my excuse, but also getting older isn't helping!

Oh dear!

Bet you are protecting that on every swing, Couldn't think of a worse injury for a right handed golfer.
I'm off to Spain for a month in January, going to put some work in on the golf swing. Getting the weight forward and pivoting on the left ankle is the priority.

Yeah, that's what has cost me, the weight transfer in my hips and legs is really poor now. Lost about 30 yards on my drives; relying on my short game now!
