What I don't understand is how Shinnecock has got the tournament. Wasn't there a similar shitstorm in 2004 when the tournament was last (?) held there?

But how come we don't get this same controversy at the US Open every year (presumably the USGA is responsible for setting up the course every year)? I can understand them not wanting a course that a sunday morning hacker can shoot -5 on, but when you get the amount of players and pundits that there is this year complaining about the course, then something is badly wrong.

as it should be, you have to beat the course so 1 under par is the score to achieve. This 20 under bollocks is a farce and has lead to golf's lack of appeal with any old shit winning each week.

It’s happened a few times they make it very difficult right on the edge and then like yesterday if it gets windy and hot it tips it over the edge. A bit of watering and pin placements make a huge difference. Today it’s bang on tough but fair. The course hasn’t changed just the set up.
