Been doing ok, seem to have cut out in the main my slice driving but not played enough yet to get my touch right around the green, putting well tho.

Next test Sunday, should be off the course for the end of the Ryanair derby. The pint before driving home could taste very sweet.

First medal round of the season coming up, today. I'm expecting greatness but anticipating disaster.
My prediction wasn't too far off.
Four over gross for the front nine. Eleven over for the back nine.
Although it did absolutely piss down on the back, tbf.
The best I've been off the tee since the restart. Very pleased overall but fuck me my pitching was poor.

Had a three foot straight uphill putt on 6th for birdie this morning , four putts later , a double bogey.
Played the next 9 in 1 under gross before a double, bogey finish. Cruel game.
I was fine with the four putt, "started so i will finish" I mumbled, but the three golfing partners were very uncomfortable.
Trying pencil grip on Wednesday, at Coxmoor. Cannot be any worse.

Won our Texas Scramble yesterday and managed to miss the bulk of the rain met @hammocity on the course in passing.

All in all a good but slow day, almost 5 hours with snail play all over the course..
Yep, slowest on a Sunday for ages, we think it was the Strangeways D Wing Society let out for the day that caused it. One of their lads hit the biggest "pull" I've ever seen, from the 13th tee to the 9th fairway, for those who don't know Ashton it was about 200 yards left.

Apparently many of them were from Leigh...not happy when my mate said ah the little place near Wigan. ....he has a way with words. ;)

Joined local club https://www.chorleygolfclub.co.uk/ as no football and got my offcial club handicap this week 18 - I am just about to enter some comps - my goal is to get to a single figure H this season if possible, just cannot get driving, chipping and putting all to work for a full round - hit every fairway last week and 40pts and then a week later could not buy a fairway! (I blamed the new shoes I was wearing)

Slow play is a real problem in the game . My mate played on Saturday 4.5 he round . One bloke 2 holes infront of him had a handicap of 43 !!!! Wtf . When I was a member 28 was max

18 is good but set yourself a target of around 16 otherwise you'll be beating yourself up when you have a bad round. Enjoy the game, take it as it comes and with at least 12 months under your golf belt you'll have some idea which way you are heading.

Shot 80 yesterday morning after starting with a double on the first.

Mildly annoyed that I missed my birdie putt on the 18th after putting my lob wedge to 6 feet from 80 yards with the most beautiful low spinner I’ve played all year. Closest I’ve been to breaking 80 since I took the sport up again in October of last year.

No mate, our system just always sticks your stableford score on your card. In the two comps this weekend I managed a 33 and 36 and didn’t get a sniff. My wife, annoyingly, scored 38 and 41 and won £150 on the Sunday.

She’s now beaten me in our last 6 tournament rounds (her handicap has come down from 36 to 28 in that time) and after breaking 100 for the first time a month ago, she’s followed it up 5 times in her last 6 rounds. And she looks better on the course than I do.

To be fair if I had an official handicap it would have been something like that for the first couple of years of me playing the game. This year I reckon I’d be edging down to that 28 and I’ve always been mindful of holding up the better players I play with or following. Slow play isn’t the exclusive domain of beginners or hackers though, judging by the time some people spend selecting a club or weighing up a putt

Oh mate, there’s a foul ball that plays mid morning every day out here, all QA Exec pilots, all lovely guys, all play off 5 or lower, all with a buggy each and it’s always a 4 1/2 hour round if you get stuck behind them. They take so long on each green and it’s never “ready golf”, they all mark their balls, they all stand together whilst the 4th putts. It’s infuriating. If I see they’re down to tee off in the two hours before me and I’m in a 2 or 3 I always move my tee time. You’re dead right it’s not always the high handicappers that hold the course up.
