New course for me on Sunday, Stamford on the edge of Stalybridge, God knows what state I'll be in when I tee-off at lunchtime.

I play with my cousin quite often and a good round for him is sub 110. Part of the issue is he’s too self conscious of slowing pace of play down and so rushes his shots and his decision making, which has the knock on impact of slowing play down even more than if he just took his time a bit.

Thing with players like that though, they tend to be good at letting others play through when they really are slowing down play and I don’t mind the rounds taking longer if we aren’t holding anyone up.

It’s the mid handicappers that go around in the same four ball at the same time every week with a sense of entitlement that everyone else behind them slows down to their speed that annoys me.

With the handicaps though, I do think there needs to be a limit for comps. Stableford will hugely favour those that are high handicaps but beginning to play regularly as they can have a much bigger swing score wise each round.
This is biggest problem. I said in clubhouse on Saturday that there needs be understanding that it's every groups responsibility to let others through. Club captain's are the worst I find

Shame for Rahm having to withdraw from the Memorial due to positive covid test whilst leading by 6 shots. Surely he could have gone last out on his own to socially distance.

Our four ball today could step in for him and play better ball. We could split the prize money with him.

So that would be fuck all. ;)

Put the papers in to join my local club yesterday.. Padeswood and Buckley.. The course is in great condition and not a bad price at £650 for a 7 day membership.. Two of my Brother in-laws are members there and I’ve been paying guest fees anyway so I thought why not.. I only need to play twice a week to be in pocket v the visitor charge

Up by Loch Lomond for a week surrounded by great courses but not a chance of getting a round in. Still it’s not all bad and definitely inspired to return with the clubs

I keep popping in and out of this thread to see what's going on in the world of golf.

I am from the maintenance side of golf which is in huge decline. Head greenkeepers walking away , or being made redundant and replaced by their deputies on deputies wages.
The maintenance budgets being slashed, and maintenance teams being reduced by half on some courses.

The maintenance side of golf has huge problems, lack of young greenkeepers coming in and older experience ones looking to get out.

Reading your post it doesnt seem to be impacting on your enjoyment or standard of course yet.

I guess that's a few years down the line ! Most courses will be ok for about 2 years without the right maintenance, experience staff or the correct numbers of staff. Than it just falls of a cliff and takes decades to get back.

Enjoy your golf but makes sure your course isnt cutting corners on maintenance, experience staff etc :)
